The funny thing is that Skyrim is more about "freedom" because the world don't wait on you to solve its problem (even though they won't solevit and just wait, and you happen to be a perfect fit for it lol). What I mean is that skyrim is based on the illusion than things happen and you stumble into it and choose or not to engage, you can choose to be a vampire or not. In skyrim it's about freedom of BEING, you make your class, you forge weapon, all of that is about BEING, everything is there to make sure you can construct a ROLE for yourself (the quality of the execution is debatable though). Skyrim is divergent.

Zelda is all about DOING and you have a very defined role you cannot change, you have option on how you implement that role, but ultimately you don't have to "choose", ie nothing close because you go one way, all options are always available at all time. Zelda is convergent.

depends on your definition of freedom i guess. imo the freedom that exists in skyrim is much less meaningful (not least because without imposing artificial roleplaying restrictions on yourself, the different playstyles are not that diverse)

Yeah I meant in principle not in execution (it kind of slowly converge after some point though not completely), though it's still much more than zelda, there is more divergence. The freedom I'm talking about is more structure of the progression. IN zelda you will have to complete the shrine, korok seed, etc ... the order don't matter and they aren't exclusive to each other, in skyrim you can't be a redguard and a nord at the same time, the game react differently to that (though the divergence is low) and there is a cap to skill, you can't be a vampire and be good teh day (even though that's slightly reversible). It's very different than for example, changing cloth in zelda, you still have an option to revert at any moment, weapon management is the most divergent choice to do in zelda (because they are gone for good) but that's rather short terms and force on you rather than a conscious choice you made to fit a role. BOTW have as many choice as pacman, you will have t gooble these dot anyway, the order don't matter. I still feel I was more free in skyrim than zelda botw (I can't even choose my gender in this one).

I'm just one of those people who always does what the designer doesn't want, so I've been up mountains and waited for half an hour for the rain to stop and it won't - why? - because that's this game's version of an invisible wall.

Zelda Breath of the Wild - How to climb a mountain when it's raining?

I'm playing on a no upgrade run and I haven't found a situation yet (aside out of bound of the entireworld) where I can't just find a work around. I have been climbing the tallest facade using regular stamina. I have met rain yet (I'm combing gerudo valley, currently in the cold mountain) I'll see if I can find work around Smiley

Well. That's not climbing is it?

The area surrounding the elephant divine beast is surrounded by rain, because plot. If you approach the valley the wrong way (I approach everything the wrong way) you run into the game wanting you to approach the valley the other way. There's even a bunch of NPCs who exist soley to point you towards the Zora city around it (all of which I avoided because people in this are boring).

My issue is, "you can do anything!" Whilst not saying, "but it's fucking expensive at times to do so!" And if you get stuck somewhere without knowing you needed resources then you can have a pretty shitty time.

At the beginning of the game this isn't so noticeable, because you can always fuck off and do something more interesting than try and climb an expensive cliff. As it goes on though, little gripes are building up and yeah, it just really gets on my nerves.

If the game doesn't piss you off, good for you. Personally, out of the 3 massive sandbox games I've played over the past 6 months (Skyrim, The Witcher 3, Zelda) this one has pissed me off the most, closely followed by The Witcher 3 purely because of its shitty controls.

It's not climbing technically, but it's going place, it's like complaining you can't walk everywhere because you have to swim some place. Also you always have a out of jail card with instant teleportation to shrine and tower, you cannot get stuck.

I play like you, if they tell me something I go the other way, and I'm playing with 3 hearts naked basic stamina, so there is a lot alternative solving to do, because most enemy one shoot me.

So technically you can do truly do everything, more and it become a game editor, what's in there takes challenge rightfully as this is still a game. Fucking expensive I don't see that as a problem, you can do much more than in skyrim. AND the only freer game is gta AFTER unlocking everything, this game give you most things directly at the beginning (which I don't even use).

Try saints row 3 maybe?

send me an e-mail when its decided that its worst zelda game to date
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1357549
For those who still favor older Zeldas over BoTW, what's your reasoning?
Quote from: compilation
- Things break
- dungeon are lackluster and shrine are no replacement
- music is too understate
- the final boss is lackluster
- character are bland
- too big and empty + I don't like open world game
- not focused enough, no sense of progression
- story is not great
- it's a survival game with a zelda skin
- not enough interesting items
- repetitive encounter
- not enough enemy variety
- motion control shrine
- garbage tier framerate
- disapointing boss
- rain
- stamina
- Grindy cooking stop
- button mapping
- not enough interesting items
- item progression is not there, like the discovery in dungeon
- too many shrine and korok seed
- fetch quest from npc
- why we can't keep the weapon?
- more theme in shrine and dungeon
- more indoor area

7/10 give me traditional zelda but keep this as an overworld

Apparently best game would be:
- zelda progression
- witcher 3 quests and writing
- botw overworld
- lynels + shield boarding

The char-gen RNG is horribly unfair, the mid game is grindy and uninteresting and towards the end your character tends to start glitching out more and more until it's nigh unplayable. Also not a fan of the permadeath. (+ other predictable jokes)

A bit closer to no man's sky

Breath of the Wild Glitch - Infinite Flying Machine (Magnesis Airship)

I tried something like that when I got the game but couldn't find a stable set up like they did.

I'm trying to find little things I can enjoy but the Yiga clan are now harassing me every 5 minutes. By the time I kill one another one spawns.

Anyone know how to get rid of these idiots? They're everywhere now and they replace half the NPCs you can talk to. I'd like to just do some hiking but it's just a miserable ninja-fest.

Pro-tip: Don't do the Gerudo divine beast if you want a chill game.

I tend to stay away from road so I don't met them too much, they seems to stay close to social gathering place too. But since I'm like living naturally I avoid them and don't much yiga.

I am of two minds about this games combat:

The strategic layer of combat is great. There's a huge number of ways to approach a given enemy encounter, from direction, order of taking out enemies, gear, item use etc, similar to Deus Ex, Thief, Metal Gear Solid 5 and games like that. Weapon durability adds to it as well. Plus it uses a really nice sight & sound based stealth system that not many games use.

However, the actual sword n board melee part of it is messy. Dodging and flurry attacks are inconsistent, lock on is janky, too many attacks oneshot you without proper tells and so on. I often couldnt figure out why exactly i died other than "a guy hit me lol".

If you play it as a challenge of how to best cheese enemies it's awesome, as a hack n slash it leaves something to be desired

Given they had combat done well before I guess they wanted to enforce the strategic part more than going brawling, I'm more and more using stealth skills.

Also the tell to instant death is being in range generally (except for guardian, they point blank fire, it's technically possible to parry with insane reflex (seen some video do it), but yeah), also take out any range (bow) enemy first, use your damn run like stasis and detect where are the fucking exploding barrel, they are your friend on your worst nightmare.
