EDIT :

BUSHIDOG
by chariospirale (art) and Cakeprediction (code)

-----OLD-----

hi everyone,

after some abandonned project here and there i'm coming back.

i'm currently comic book artist, and i'm going to try (AGAIN) to develop a game.

i have two choices here :

1/ i find someone who know how to code and who is motivated and want to develop a game on his spare time with me.

2/ i start learning gamemaker and i go on my own !

i have already start learning gamemaker, but with my work on the side it's complicated to progress right now.

SO if someone is interested to try it with me, i'm open to propositions. BUT i have already some abandonned project behind me, if i can avoid another one i prefer, ha ha.

i already have a solid gamedesign for the game.

here's the concept :

you play as a dog and you need to find the guy who stole your bone. the base of the game is kind of like "way of the samurai", if you die, you have to start again the game. but you learn a little more every time. if you know what to do, you can reach the end pretty quickly. each NPC is unique, and if you kill someone, you have to wait your next run for him to resurect.

that's the base. but there is a lot of little things i want to implement in the game. like the fact that nobody talk. you can just "ask" NPC if they know where is your bone with a speech bubble (with a bone inside).
for attacking people you need to draw your sword before. but some NPC's will attack you if you do that in front of them, etc...

also, i care a lot about feedbacks in games. i really want to make it "juicy".

i think i have said enough for the first post, ha ha.

i'm going to put some new graphics and characters here, and see if someone is interested. otherwise, i'll learn how to use gamemaker when i will have more time !

thanks for reading, CHEERS.

This is wonderful so far, adore the wobbly animations! I would be very interested in helping out if I did not have another project just now. : (

Very fond of your art style! The game concept sounds interesting as well. Hopefully you have more luck this time.

Wouldn't mind seeing some of your comic work actually.

Really digging the dog and the style in general! Have you looked into Construct 2 at all? It's incredibly easy to learn!

Nice character animation! And nice idea re. the concept, I really like it when people throw re-playability into gameplay (ie. starting from the beginning when you die ala Downwell). Makes it that bit more addicting and interesting once you pick up what to do each time ^^

@jctwood : thanks, no problem at all !

@Samson : thanks, i hope too... if you want to see some of my comics it's only published in french, but here some pictures on my tumblr : here and here.

@purplemonkey : i've heard that construct 2 was kind of equivalent with game maker. and i like the architecture of GM for now so i think i'll stay that way ! but maybe i'll check it some day.

@Superb Joe : i don't know what "ikiki" is... but i TRUST you.

@lizilser : thanks ! i'm glad that you like the concept.

@ActualDog : i hope TOO !

@ProgramGamer : ha ha thanks !

i approve of this dog.

If I was high level enough programming I would totally be your programmer, but I think that that is maybe, possibly, not such a good idea at this time lmao  Shrug

However, I would really love to see this go somewhere. Just seeing that dog already makes me very excited to play whatever game it could be in.

so, someone propose to handle the coding of the game.

i have hope !

we have some work to do now !

@Superb Joe : thanks ! i see why you said that, with the black line pretty heavy. the game seems fun though, i'll check it someday !

@b∀ kkusa : yes, well don't be sad about jalapeno, we gave it up a while ago. the important thing now is "who had stolen the bone of this little dog with a sword ?".

@FK in the Coffee : thanks for the animation. about the cross on the face, it's a scar, maybe i should do it in another color.

@Tuba : thanks ! i enjoy animate.

@jprosk : thanks, i think i have found someone now ! hope you will see this dog in a game after all !

cheers,
chariospirale.

Movement controls are looking really nice! Question re: walking though: will there be a way to bring your character back to walking? Like, some walk button you can hold to transition back?

so,

we have a first prototype of all the actions, and it's already looking pretty neat ! just some little things and animations here and there to fix.

some animations :

      new run

         roll

       grab

dash backward and forward

     bark                BARK

@FK in the Coffee : for now, no there is no way to go back to walking if you run. except if you stop walking. i dont think there is need for a "walk button", but we never know !

ps : the code is handled by Cakeprediction

This seems pretty cool! Do you think you can make a mac version when you flesh out the game more?
