Plants vs. Zombies is only a dollar again and has seen quite a few updates since its release it. The game never interested me all thaat much despite all the polish and charm, but I guess as a mobile game it should work even better than on the PC From what I've heard the iPhone port is nearly identical to the PC version, only lacking the Endless Mode. PvZ on the iPad is a pure joy.

Wow, this came out of nowhere: Scribblenauts Remix ($4,99) is out now, a "best of" of the previous two games: Unfortunately, the minimum requirements are iPod Touch 3G/iPhone 3GS/iPad

Cool, Super Monkey Ball 2 is free today! As far as I know this is not a port of the original, but should still be quite fun Also, as should be obvious from its thread, Mage Gauntlet is very much recommendable!

Yup. Also, King of Dragon Pass Port of a cult PC game from 1999. Cross between a management sim and a choose your own adventure book. Really unique. Price point is a bit steep as far as iOS games go, but if you're into deep strategy, roleplaying and norse mythology-inspired, you can't go wrong with this one.

I would recommend Hard Lines.
It's fun, witty, and just all-around AWESOME.
It was free a few weeks ago, but it has increased to $1 since then.
It's a TRON-like with a bunch of creative modes and a charming sense of humor. I have a hard time describing it because there is a lot of variety behind the gameplay. The TRON lines really take on a personality of their own, and the game is great for short, fun sessions or long, gotta-beat-that-highscore sessions as well.
It's a nice little gem on the App Store. I'd say it's definitely worth $1. Plus it's Universal, so that's always nice for you iPad folk who I am extremely jealous of.
There's a trailer here, although I haven't seen it yet, sorry:

Hard lines looks great! There's an open source tron game out for computers that's tons of fun, too.
Just bought Mage Gauntlet & Hard Lines. Looking forward to playing.

Infinity Blade 2 is pretty much a straight upgrade of the first game. It's not very deep but incredibly fun to play on the go. Also Junk Jack. A really neat Minecraft/Terraria clone that fixes some issues I've always had with these games (notably reduced grinding). Also nicest art of any Minecraft clone I've seen: http://itunes.apple.com/en/app/junk-jack/id436555490?mt=8

May as well second the recommendation somewhere previously in this thread for Battleheart. Fun little action/strategy RPG... thing! Cut the rope is always fun if you're looking for a puzzle type game. Trainyard is also good, sort of reminds me of those old flood-the-pipe puzzle games (with more puzzle and less timing) I cannot praise Anomaly Warzone Earth enough, probably one of the best IOS games I've seen Jetpack Joyride is also a nice time-waster, surprisingly engaging for being a one-button game.
