Hello artists old and new, I've been setting up a little weekly challenge I call Frankie's Casual Pixel Shack.
Every friday at 8pm EST, I post a screenshot of an 8 or 16-bit game, and invite everyone to edit it, play around with it, improve it, add to it, etc. There's no rules, its just for fun.
I reveal the new picture on my live stream at
https://www.twitch.tv/frankiepixelshow and I make edits of my own on the stream.
I believe a great way to practice pixel art is to grab existing art someone else made and work with it. This is something I suggested many times to people asking me for advice in the past. Grab a screenshot from an old NES game and play around with it!
It can really help new artists to get rid of the blank page problem, it gives people a reason to observe professional art closely, it provides context and inspiration, it gives the artist a color palette and a pixel art style to experiment with, and its also just a whole lot of fun!
