Ludum Dare 14 is coming up (April 17th-19th)! Let me begin with the same quote dock used in the last thread: Ludum Dare is a solo, from scratch competition.
In 48 hours, you build a game entirely on your own based on the given theme. No premade content, and no teams.
http://www.ludumdare.com/Note that though all content has to be created from scratch and in 48 hours, using libraries and tools is allowed (although with a few rules to govern their use - basically, no "gameplay" can be premade). The full rules can be found here. The last compo, LD13, was won by increpare's "Rara Racer", and a bunch of other tiggers entered (including Dock, Terry, PoV and myself - sorry if I forgot anyone!). I'm definitely planning to enter this one if I can find the time. I hope I'll see some of you guys around the LD blog! Note: I wasn't sure whether to post this here or in the competitions forum - the thread about LD13 was in this subforum, so I thought I'd just stick with that. Feel free to move it.

I also want to enter this Ludum Dare; it'd be my first. A question: at what time does it end and start, exactly?

agj: There's a timer on the website that counts down to the starting time, should give you a good idea about when it starts in your time zone

I'm entering this one, as well. It'll also be my first.
If I were to use something like MMF2 or Construct for my entry, would it be okay to include some of the basic movements that come with them, as long as enough of the rest og the game is new?

Yeah, probably. If you want to be sure, you could either go to the ludum dare blog and make a post asking about it, or join #ludumdare on irc.afternet.org and ask there (PoV and philhassey have final say since they're organizing it, so getting an answer from them would be best).

I'm going to be in... I assume it's okay if I make my game browser-based? I'm a Flex guy myself... I suppose I could use AIR if they want it downloadable.

Browser based has been fine before, so that shouldn't be a problem.

You guys think it'll be too hard to make my game in Python, with me not knowing anything about Python, presently?

Theme is announced at the start, is being voted on now. Rules are single person, from scratch development.

I was thinking of just figuring out the basics on friday and taking it from there during the competition? I don't think it will pose much of a problem. Especially since Python comes with live interpreter which makes learning so much easier. I think I'll be using it myself.
