Yeah hard to say. Across games like this, they don't consistently do the same thing. Some of them keep the GUI the whole time, others fade it out earlier or later.

Fading to white over the GUI would be the solution Link's Awakening used:

Yeah I do like LTTP here, but I think a point of contention between that and yours is that your hearts disappear with the black but reappear with the white. LTTP has a white outline to ease the transition.

In yours, the hearts disappearing and reappearing lead your eye to them, when the focus should probably be on the character's death animation.

But trying new things is always great, so I encourage further exploration even if it's not in the direction of an existing game.

Ah yeah, I see what you mean. The difference in the heart border does change how it is perceived through those transitions.

I tend to use the older games as baselines, since almost everything in them is pretty conscientious and pored over during their development. I also agree though that our solutions shouldn't be merely limited to things done before. But it does create a tricky balance in our case, since we are also trying to create a "period piece" here!

Yeah it is pretty neat to see how each of them took the ideas of the previous work as a basis, but then added to it, and adopted it to their new medium!

Mark made a cute little vignette of the Frobbit's animations:

Working on converting the title card into our titlescreen for the demo; will probably animate a bunch of stuff for it pretty soon:

Oh hmm! The logo looks awesome, but I think I prefer the old colors. I understand the temptation to go more saturated though, and the buildings seem to match the palette from the screen shots a bit better. Maybe there's a hybrid color scheme that would give you the best of both worlds?

The logo/text and the main character might read stronger against a less saturated background, and you may get a stronger feeling depth.

I decided to desaturate the front tree a bit to get the Title to pop out a bit more against it

Loving all the animations for the Crab/Skull Boss. The waking up and the death are both excellent. Particularly enjoy the skull-shaped cloud at the end.

The Boy Who Stole The Sun looks pretty nifty too! Would love to keep seeing updates in the future again!

The time I was making a quick victory fanfare... and I think I wrote something from Metroid instead? Sigh, lol.

So beautiful Kiss I am so envious of your artistic ability, not just in the pixel art, but the execution. This is amazing and just my style! I hope to see much more of this in the future.
