I installed it last night by switching to my Australian google play account, but I don't think they'd populated Japan yet, because beyond my starter my entire city was devoid of any markers or wild pokemon of any kind.
My ability to play is also very limited, because it spikes my phone to about 100'c almost instantly and chews through 3% battery per minute. It also refuses to keep gps connection with the app in the background, so I have to physically have my phone out and running the app at all times when exploring.
I'm excited for the game, but there are definitely some bugs that need working out. I was also very disappointed by the extremely limited character customization.

It wasn't found on European App/Play Stores, at least not in the morning. Need to see if that has changed now. Hopefully we can get it legitimately soon.

They didn't even have enough funding to get rid of the splash screen

I want to re-itterate that this game is still unavailable in Canada despite it being released for "North America".

i think pokemon go might have just changed videogames, im not even kidding. ive never seen such a huge reaction to ANYTHING as this. in boston yesterday taking the city bus literally *half the people* on the bus are playing and talking and joking around. total strangers on an inner city bus line on friday night, this just doesnt happen. parks this weekend had like 100+ people running around catching pokemans. 2 taiwanese girls (tourists i think!) setup a bunch of lures at pokestops by a fountain downtown and people were treating them like rockstars. its wild, ive seriously ever seen anything like it. im sure it'll slow down eventually, but still, its really something hot take: americans also might really have been in need of something like this. something that gets strangers to talk to each other about goofy stuff and breaks down social barriers. its hard to other the person next to you when youre both chasing around a squirtle. the craziest thing, to me, is that the game has been this huge and it *barely even works*. it would be buggy for an alpha tbh. in my mind that means that the potential for AR games is tremendous and completely untapped. if pokemon go gets developers thinking in that direction it could be a huge thing.

Yea, I don't really understand why anyone would really want to play this game if they care about their lives.

What actually is it though? It looks to me like it's just some basic AR thing where you look through your phone's camera and see things that aren't there. But surely that isn't worth all this fuss?

what's funny is, this thing is probably closer to what pokemon originally was than any of the main series games in the past 15 years or so (i mean w/r/t its role as a social fad).
