This gets weirder and weirder with every post.
And I love it hahahahah!
Haha indeed. But definitely in a good way!
Haha thanks guys Oh gosh haha, the game is made very sloppily, so I'm happy you thought anything of it. And I do like (LOVE) Animal Crossing, it's my favorite gaming franchise, followed by Mother and Paper Mario.
The effects you manage are very impressive. I'm interested in them myself since I'm also creating a Earthbound-esque game. Are you by any chance using shaders for them?
That music track is awesome by the way! I'd been wanting to hear the full thing!
It's really cool, I wish there were more games like that. I LOVE it too! Same with MOTHER. The effects aren't shaders, they're just programmed in C# with the Monogame(XNA 4) engine. I could link you to how I learned it, if you use Monogame. And thank you!! : D Anyways, here's some new things In the underground cavern there's a guy He might seem creepy at first but... He just wants to sell you stuff! (new items: Machete X[+20 ATK]; Bomb) He's pretty chill. His name is Warnard. He goes away Speaking of new characters, here's another one I just put in the game: He's over-dramatic and he asks a lot of existential questions. He stands in Ultra Bird's place after you exit Grumpy's shop. His appearance is inspired by Meta Knight.

Yeah I always wanted a game like it, so I tried to create it myself. Was excited to see Stardew Valley adding to that ever so small list!
I use GLSL ES shaders in Game Maker Studio to accomplish a similar effect but it's rather flawed. I probably should study up on it more haha.
Ultra Bird is pure gold, so I can't wait to see what Meta Knight has to say.

Before I get to my recent progress, let me show you what I added before Freddy's house. Nothing big, though. Pinky the ghost. Enemy encounter. Another grinding spot if you need to prepare for Freddy or if you get defeated by him. And now:
Here's what I've done recently. Also you can notice I replaced the victims of Freddy. I didn't like the parent designs...

At first I thought those were little pink pacmans (pacmen?) floating in the sky haha.
This is so exciting! I can't want to see how the overall story unfolds. That latest video insinuates something deep is going on.

Haha they do look like that. And I'm glad you like it!! Hahaha the humor, the weird videos and everything... I love it Haha glad to hear Anyways I made a long list of glitches/problems to fix and stuff to add. Once I finish it, I'll release a new test build. It might be sooner, but who knows? New stuff: New battle, after you kill caveboy, take his Wormy and wait 10 seconds, you'll get a spooky surprise.

I did some stuff on that list and I released a new test build. Download link: https://jamesmaslaki.itch.io/mad-world-test-buildPlease try it out and tell me what you think, it'd mean a lot. (and yes I already know the file size is huge, I'll attempt to fix that next time)

Some updates. Welp, file size of the game is getting WAY too big. So I decided to reduce my assets to tilesets instead of full images for each level. So yeah, I redid everything up to the spring man encounter area in tiles. Here's another example: It allowed me to make new and better designs, so that's cool. I reduced the file size for this build. Here's a patch patch of the newer test build. Click above or here for the build: https://jamesmaslaki.itch.io/mad-world-test-buildHere's a bonus: Video of the lake song alone:

Update. I thought I'd do something special this holiday season. Introducing... Christmas mode!Snow(also the song has jingle bells playing in it) Dirt paths replaced with graham crackers with candy cane edges And everyone(almost) gets a santa hat, even the waves. Another secret(if you take Caveboy's cake after you kill his ghost, wait two seconds(not till the next patch though)) Also you can spawn with horns under certain circumstances, not gonna say what, though AND new character, Brainless.

Nice! Thanks for uploading a Christmas Build . I hope to play it sometime soon. Quick question; with all these updates, I'm simply curious: Does the game have a concrete beginning/middle/ending, party members, RPG/Leveling mechanics, etc. While I love the weirdness and constant builds of it all, I was wondering if you plan on creating this into a full-fledged RPG to then bring to Steam? I have yet to play the build, so perhaps doing so would answer my question. The reason I ask, mainly, is because its aesthetic alone has such wonderful potential.

I have yet to play the build, so perhaps doing so would answer my question. The reason I ask, mainly, is because its aesthetic alone has such wonderful potential. No need to thank me, thanks for your kind words And yes there are leveling/RPG mechanics, but nothing extreme at the moment. Also, yes I do plan to make it a full-fledged RPG and bring it to Steam. Despite all that being said, I'm announcing a big change. I'm starting Mad world over from scratch. And I'm switching from Monogame to Game Maker. The reason for this is monogame caused too much trouble/issues for me and it's really frustrating and it made development miserable. I find Game Maker to make everything much easier and better, and I'm much happier with it. So yeah, here's some gifs on progress: Been working on the town, and also gave the character a sprinting animation. This also gives me the opportunity to establish a core mechanic. This will give me room to create a core mechanic and build from the ground up, there's so many things I've done wrong and now I can fix it without digging under my mess of code in monogame. This will be a clean slate.

little progress on the town also added the two kids playing ball but not shown in the gif i think i like the original front view better. cabinet view just feels wrong to me for mad world finished the basis for my dialogue system. gonna add more than two options sooner or later

I think it's awesome that you moved over to Gamemaker. It's very flexible for games like these. The new MAD WORLD is looking good already!
