People don't like being routinely shown up by someone wittier than they are. It's a real problem. After a while, it becomes daunting... the thought of following up this person who always has something zesty to say with something utterly mundane and ordinary. If they can't outright turn everyone against you, they will leave. |

Oh yes. That happens, too. What I finally realized is that if you base your self-esteem off of appearing to be superior to those in your immediate vicinity, you basically fail at having self-esteem. So if I'm being compared to some huge dude with a 9" dong or I find myself having to mince words with some guy with a 160 IQ, or I'm expected to be intimidated by some chick who is for all intents and purposes a 9/10... I just remember that all of these people require everyone's validation to feel secure about themselves. And that kind of makes me chuckle a little bit. Makes it hard to take people seriously, which in turn allows me to be myself and not play the role of the butt-hurt. When it comes to the personality/sense-of-superiority intimidation game, if you can even call it that, I look at it is a game of "chicken", where I'm willing to go ahead and crash head on. I have nothing to lose, but usually people with humongous ego's do. I'm kind of like Wolverine, in a way. It doesn't matter how many times someone thinks they've humiliated/shamed or beaten me, I just bounce right back. I have no shame. No shame at all. When you think about it... you can't beat a person like that. You can't really "defeat" a Samurai when his whole purpose in life is to die. Know what I mean? Maybe you don't. But you know who does know exactly what I mean?  Some people just do not have any fucks available to give. And I am one of those people. |
