also, regarding erdogan's standing with turks living abroad. at least here in austria, which has a large turkish population, there are several organizations that are close to the AKP and basically doing propaganda work for them.

I'm kinda shocked by how badly it went for the soldiers. It seems like everything that could go wrong in this coup did. They picked a bad time to start the coup, they didn't capture Erdogan, they allowed him to fly around in Turkish airspace for a long time and then allowed him to land without resisting, and they didn't disable any communication services so Erdogan and his friends could tell the civilians what to do (i.e. get out on the streets and act like human shields thus forcing the soldiers to decide between surrender or firing on the civilians).

It makes me wonder if it was just an incredibly incompetent attempt at a coup or if it was actually staged by someone who wanted it to fail. I've heard rumors that some of the soldiers thought they were taking part in a training exercise.

He is also considering introducing the death penalty atm. No officials in the US or the EU are willing to condemn this because of diplomatic reasons. Seriously, fuck everything.

The swift rounding up of judges and others after a failed coup in Turkey indicated the government had prepared a list beforehand, the EU commissioner dealing with Turkey's membership bid, Johannes Hahn, said on Monday.

Following a failed coup attempt on Saturday, Turkish authorities on Sunday rounded up nearly 3,000 suspected military plotters, ranging from top commanders to foot soldiers, and the same number of judges and prosecutors.

"It looks at least as if something has been prepared. The lists are available, which indicates it was prepared and to be used at a certain stage," Hahn said.

"I'm very concerned. It is exactly what we feared."

Kurdish businesses in my hometown are being threatened and attacked by turkish nationalists atm. Apparently many of the pro erdogan protesters abroad are members of the "grey wolves" (turkish far right movement).

Also violence in turkey itself hasnt stopped. People suspected of supporting the coup attempt are reportedly being hunted down by mobs.

This whole situation is fucked up.

I imagine there will soon be an exodus of secular Turks to Europe who want to escape from Erdogan's madness, further accelerating the country's descent into religious stupidity.

Not the first time rumors have abounded about "training exercises" in military operations.

1. im glad i can finally drop the "borderline" now when i call erdogan a dictator

2. don't quote RT as your only source lol. i googled to see if the news was legit and apparently it is, so it's no big deal. tho the turkish government claims it's only "temporary".
