I've been working hard on getting this slash to feel just right, but something still feels off. The colours and detail are rough, I'm trying to get the animation working first.
Any tips would be awesome!

I think the slash may be coming too soon; try it with the step finishing before the swing begins, perhaps?

Thanks! I moved the step forward a frame. How does this look?

(maybe it's a bit late, but ?)

Maybe you can try to intensify/exaggerate the way your character steps on the floor. It'll add dynamism, the animation is a little too... static. You can do so with adding some squash and stretch, you can also make him bend over more, etc.

Your character is small so you need to exaggerate the movement more than what you'd do for a bigger sprite I guess ?

But your animation is already really cool though great job!!

Thanks for the reply! Yeah I think you're right about exaggerating. His torso remains in the same position for most of the animation. I'll do a mockup and see how it looks! Thanks a bunch!

It is an in-game asset. Would you be able to explain a little more? I don't see where the trouble would come from
Thanks!

I also uploaded a version without any detail to the character which should make it easier to analyze
