Before we dismiss every bejeweled clone, let's look for ones that show promise.  Just saw SpeedCluster over on Metafilter and it sucked me in more than I thought it would.

Match the cards in your hand with the four columns of falling cards.  Matches are made by either stepping up or down one value.  As levels advance both the timer and the falling cards move faster.  Simple, derivative, and fun.

Edit: Also key, build stacks before the cards reach the bottom for combo points.

That's quite a clever idea, actually. It's nice to see some people still coming up with new ideas for types of games that have typically become overdone.
