Vintage Story is a game about innovation and exploration. It thrusts the player into a carefully-generated semi-autonomous world and challenges them to survive and overcome the natural and unknown threats of their new home. Intrepid players who accept this challenge will find themselves rewarded with mechanics that respects their intelligence and allows for tangible, realistic invention.

In addition, they’ll find a world with its own character and a deep, interconnected narrative within it. It aims to become the new standard of voxel games, as we, a small dedicated team, relentlessy expand it with story elements, more creation tools and survival elements.

A Feature Overview is on our website vintagestory.at

Added a bunch of fancy blocks, improved terrain generation (now generates snow) and added a macro editor. There is now also a features page if you are curios to know what the game can do already: http://www.vintagestory.at/features.html/

The macro editor allows you to run any sequence of server commands you want. Extremly useful when developing new features or playing in creative mode.

We've been adding many new blocks, discovered how far clouds can really go without lag, added a fov slider, made updates on our freely available block model editor and many more tweaks \o/

I'm intrigued, terrain generation looks very nice, but I fear the arstyle is really too similar to Minecraft.  Concerned
There are tons of Minecraft clones out there. You need a way to distinct yourself from the huge competition, at least visually.

I have yet to find a visual style that has the same "building block" appeal as minecrafts yet is very different from it. I think most popular 3d sandbox games under development try too hard to set themselfes apart, which makes them very unpleasing to me.

I actually believe some of the MC community I more than ready to accept a visually similar game if it can solve some of the many problems minecraft has introduced and just ignored

Been working hard on making the game ready for 64bit architectures and tolerant towards adding/removing blocks. More progress has been made towards multiplayer and the block lineup. We now have an amazing lantern using the colored lights system! <3

Did a lot of polishing and worldgen improvements, made a game account manager and a way to create game accounds from game keys. I've now handed out the first few game keys! Also thanks to this devlog I've also found and contracted a musician and story writer \o/

Which means I finally have time again for fancy features - currently playing with bloom effects :-)

This definitely looks great, visually. I'm actually not really into the whole Minecraft genre, so I don't know what else is out there, but if you can do with Minecraft what WoW did with the MMO formula, then you will probably find some success. I'm sure there are things, besides the visuals, that can be improved on.

Disclaimer: I've never played WoW, I refuse. But there's no denying it's success.

Next shader effect - godrays:

Some of the lighting glitches you see here are already fixed. Ok I think I'm done with toying around with shaders, time to refocus on survival again.

The game is now officially up for sale \o/ Hand Any Key
Go buy it at https://www.vintagestory.at

Besides finalizing the online shop I've also improved the cinematic camera tols and world edit tools. The game now allows you to do MS-Paint Style drawing in 3d and gives you a pretty preview of the cinematic camera path (using Centripetal Catmul-Rom Splines)

Looks beautiful. Do trees fall when you chop away the bottom? (Floating trees annoyed me quite a bit in Minecraft.)

Nope, but there will be tools to make removing leaves easier when survival is ready

I've just released v1.0.3 with one very important step towards survival mode: The ability to open chests and store items in them.

We've also added some more very pretty blocks, like Quartz and Metal Sheets. And we have a new skin for our main character. More info at https://www.vintagestory.at/
