I've recently been getting back into the game, and it'd be nice to find some fellow people to play with. I'm fairly new to this forum, so I was wondering if any kind of community already exists. If not, would anybody be interested in starting one?

I've never won a game of Civ because they last too long.

I play civ sometimes but only on small/tiny maps because it's absolutely impossible to finish the game otherwise. These gams have a serious issue with scope in lategame because the number of things a player has to manage keeps growing the longer you play.

they also kinda have an issue with "empty" turns where you don't do anything other than watching some units move and watching your research inch closer to completion.

also tbh the lack of unit stacking in civ 5 is kinda one step forward one step back. on the one hand it makes the "stack of doom" strategy impossible and deepens tactical play. on the other hand, it introduces a lot of micromanagement and busywork. mid to late game, you're basically playing sokoban with your units.

way i see it, civ does the "epic scope" and "taking your civilization through the ages" theme better than most other games, and that's basically why i play them. mechanically, age of wonders 3 is my preferred modern 4x.

I'm still playing civ 1 from time to time. Does that count?  Facepalm  Smiley
