Yeah, I know they need to make money, and I have bought gems for Clash a couple times now. I was thinking last night about just how commendable the monetization model in Clash is.

You can't buy cards directly, only the chance at unlocking them. Then the endless rank/trophies thing means that if you spend big you will experience a power advantage over others at the same rank, but only until your rank rises to meet people with the same card power where the game becomes entirely about skill again.

It limits the amount a 'pay to win' player can bring down the experience for everyone else without completely robbing them of the feeling that they have made a meaningful purchase.

So now I'm in the 2300 trophies range. Finally made it solidly to Arena 8.
I've updated my main deck to:

* Zap
* Rocket
* Skeletons (1 mana)
* Inferno Tower
* Princess
* Archers
* Valkyrie
* Mana Collector

This deck has been really good against Sparky decks and swarm decks. Saving a Rocket and a Zap can take out Sparky along with whatever escort it has, for a big mana win. If Sparky is being played alone I can kill it w/ just the Zap and Skeletons if I have good timing. Swarm decks I just turtle with mana collectors and Rocket all game long. Otherwise, I just go for good trades and direct tower damage through the occasional Princess until the late game, then start Rocketing.

I got Poison, but I'm not good at using it yet. The card I want the most now is the Miner. Oh, and Ice Wizard - I would replace Archers with it.

I've only faced sparky a couple times and obviously I don't know how to deal with that card. It seems insane. Especially at a cost of 6 mana. I would have guessed 8-9.

Zap (and maybe Freeze?) resets the charge on its shot. Also a Valkyrie will do major damage to it, and usually doesn't die in one hit, so if you drop a Zap and Valkyrie right after you can take it out. One-mana skeletons are also good to just deflect a shot while you're getting ranged units in place. Sparky is also fairly weak, so if it's alone and you drop a Zap with Skeletons right after, often they'll completely take it out.

I've been running a mirror/elixir generator deck and it's been pretty hilarious. I can pretty easily get 4 elixir generators on the board. At that point, dropping down to 2 mana from generator drop isn't so bad since it recovers quite quickly at that point.

One of my favorite moments was getting 4 witches on the board because my card turnover from the generators was so high.

Really? This game feels like the most pay to win game I've ever seen. Every so often you play a level 7 who somehow has level 9+ for all their units. At that point the opponent simply has better numbers than you because they paid more.

It is pay to win, but the ranking sorts people out as far as power level goes.

If I had any motivation left in me I would try to make a game like that.

I can see why people don't do it in a commercial setting. The pitch would be like "it's like clash royale only we make way less money but the game is balanced".

Yeah. I have spent $0 for CR and will continue to do so, since I know it's only a money sink.

Now, if they wanted to charge me $1-2 for reaching a new arena? I'd pay then. And I could pay as much as I wanted if I continued to do well but only with my rise in skill, instead of dumping $50 hoping for a sweet card to swing things inmy favor

for those that havent reached arena 7 watch out. I now have spent 13$ on this game. Basically when I hit it a one day sale came up for my account where you basically get 75% off of a bundle of gold, gems and a super magical chest. They gave me 6 hours to buy it.

as far as I can tell, the mega minion is just bad. It doesn't seem to have as much health as the normal 3 un-armoured minions but it's easier for enemies to focus on. I guess it's nice that it doesn't die from arrow rain like 3 would but it's still pretty weak and doesn't do much damage.

The only good use I've found for it so far is to drop it ontop of a witch, it will kill the witch before dying, which I don't think the group of 3 normal minions could do due to all taking splash/area damage from the witch's attacks

Exactly, so better off using one of those, because they are much more useful in many other contexts too
