Game are bad at internal struggle, it can be done. We need emotional affordance instead of just world affordance. Emotional affordance would mean that (player) character (inter)action would have to change based on emotional state of the character. It would give context and subtext that action are currently missing.

IMO the most important piece of game narrative is Lim from m Koppa. It is abstract (not figurative) and do not need words to tell its narrative, the gameplay tells everything, it illustrate how behavior are powerful expressive tools (sorry the marriage you were a failed experiment).

I think the main reason you don't see good stories in a lot of games is because they aim to be a good game first and a story teller second.  Even games that are praised for their storytelling like Bioshock are filled with ludonarrative dissonance.

Games have great potential as a storytelling medium, but they still need to properly explore storytelling mechanics and integrate gameplay and story.

At the moment, games are capable of expressing some forms of narrative quite well, but are very inexperienced with others.

Replace the art with something that doesn't make my eyes spontaneously combust and we'll talk.

Hell, you can even get some free stuff and modify it from http://opengameart.org/

Also posting in other threads begging for feedback is somewhat poor form ..

They're really hoping an audience for that sort of thing will pop up, aren't they?

theres always an audience for pointless tech gadgets

i will say though that i like the idea of being able to mak gams "on the fly" by twiddling knobs and the fact that the games (as far as i know) only glitch up and don't crash. *as a musician* one thing i miss from game development is the ability to just freely experiment w/o having to plan out everything. there's no real gamedev equivalent of just sitting down with my guitar and jamming.

i mean i'm not gonna buy this or anything but i appreciate the spirit of it i guess.

Unfortunately, my reaction was "oh crap, it needs Java."

Oh yeah, I don't mean to be disparaging or anything, it's definitely a cool toy.  I just don't see it as anything that's going to be sustainable outside of maybe ~100 units sold.  Of course, the world would be a better place if I were wrong about this.

Over a decade ago I apparently logged out of Anarchy Online in my chrome Yalmaha airship thing, above the capital city, facing straight down.

I have no idea how this game works.
