the n64 disney's tarzan game was actually decent. the german voice acting was awful tho.
Ooh that was fun, I had the PS1 version. Lot of PS1/N64 era Disney games were pretty cool, Toy Story 2, Bug's Life, Hercules, Mickey's Wild Adventure, Donald Duck Quack Attack... god the toy story 2 and hercules games are fucking marvelous. especially the latter. the way that game used parallax was delicious.

Looks like the light and fog setting are imported from the cave, making the graphics more atmospheric and add necessary volume, look at how the penumbras are harsher and the fog is greenish. The default have a more flat cartoony look, but even mario 64 add a bit of (white) fog to make distance more readable and give scale. It's looks like an artist fail more than a technical fail.

isnt the fog in mario 64 due to the n64's infamous draw distance issues?

i make small games with primitive graphics lol but i guess what i don't get is, they show the games (supposedly?) running with better lighting and etc. for console games, it's not like the hardware they're developing for changes or anything, so it's kinda hard to understand why they would only figure out their performance problems at a very late stage (happened with all 3 games i mentioned). do they already know in advance that they're going to have to downgrade & the better lighting is just for hype?

Apparently sonic barely sales or even register in japan, so sega of america (soa) have been pushing for more control, their was always a tug of war between the two (soa vs soj, sega of japan) and the result was classic sonic.
ACT1 SOA made them kill the girl friend and remove the fang, they also named robotnik instead of eggman, these meddling didn't please the soj team but it works and sonic nuke mario from orbit, even though mario was capable to resist valiantly sonic was a clear success in north america and achieve icon status that stay.
Act2 During the 3D era, soj plotted to regain control of the franchise and slowly removed control from soa, they reinstall human in the universe and reintroduce the eggman name (sonic adventure) give sonic a human girlfriend (sonic 2K6) and reintroduced the fang with wereworl sonic (sonic unleash) all those element where nuke in the original creation in classic sonic by soa.
Act3 Soa where not very happy as all the original edition they made where brought back but where badly receive and did nothing for the character in japan. But by now, whil ethe tug of war tradition remain both team have been completely renew with new member over time. New SOA despise the classic design, calling it out of date and out of touch, he is also very unhappy about the game are critically received, they want to modernized it and claim control. Soj isn't happy about someone else going after their baby, a deal is met they will make a branch in the franchise tailored to the american market. They dream big and what to show what they can do, failure will totally shut down their influence in the series.
Act4 Enter big red button (brb) and sanzaru, the former is marketed as a studio created by Naughty dog veteran, but is mostly comprise of people who worked on Sponge bob from a failed studio. Sanzaru has made the last sly racoon game, both represent american brand of platformer (hack and jump style) who was somewhat popular in the ps2 era but failed to evolve with time. Fan who infiltrate Big red button in the QA departement have reported the team as no idea of what to do with sonic nor they care about the license at all. In fact they had almost free reign to do whatever they wanted and people were discourage to steer them in the "right direction", some guy at sega responsible of brand quality left the company, another one was fired because he has done some whistle blowing on the official blog.
Act3 Through tepid reception, forcast was cut in half (300 000 from 600 000 for wiiu), the tie in animation was move to the dead schedule of 7:00 in the morning (9:00 is literately prime time) and well you can see the resulting game.

isnt the fog in mario 64 due to the n64's infamous draw distance issues? Not mario 64, level are small and self contain with clear boundaries and they still use the same tricks in their modern game: floating level in space or enclosed level! see the last toad game or the champion of this style, mario galaxy. FOG help sell volume and make object from different plane pop more, making the game more readable.

i believe it.
do a sonic right, though, sega. give him the old look again for the first time in years. naoto oshima oversees everything for the first time since sonic CD. it's a 2D game.
then do a 3D game in the vein of sonic adventure 2 with the same level of polish generations had.
boom, you have a winner in both aspects
