It's funny because Kirkhope said on twitter that on N64 banjo was supposed to sound orchestral But yeah game composer killed orchestra, like they killed hard rock

why would you want to get the "essence" of the n64 "sound chip" in the 1st place? the n64/ps1 era is one of the worst sounding of them all. all of the good soundtracks were good despite the cheesy low quality samples, not because. I don't know. I thought that was the point of the video. I think we're on the same line though, as far as YL's soundtrack goes. It shouldn't be a symphony. They can use real instruments all they want but the quirkiness of BK's soundtrack didn't come from a giant orchestral brass/string set. All of what we're talking about is speculation of course. Even those tracks that were posted are just simple demos meant to hype up the fans or whatever. I doubt that the final soundtrack will be lackluster. David Wise and Grant Kirkhope are both brilliant composers. However, I do hope the team doesn't overshoot their vision for the game now that they have such a large budget. Just because they're videogame veterans doesn't mean they'll know how to handle money (look at Tim Schafer and Peter Molyneux).

How do I find samples for this kind of "chorus" thingy? Comes soon after this time: https://youtu.be/kAbL8NjoRhI?t=43m32sThey're saying "ha-ya" here, but I'm thinking more just "huoh!" but the same kinda "chorus" thingy? It's not exactly easy to google. I have no idea what to search for. And there are much better examples than this song but this was the only one I could spontaneously think of. More or less just a bunch of burly people with deep voices going "HUH" together. Does it have a name?

I think it's called kakegoe (掛け声). edit: couldn't find much in the way of free samples googling, it is associated with matsuri(festivals) and taiko, you may have to to cut from some royalty-free recording of those

Heeey, all the cool AAA movie makers always have a 'making of' on their discs. Where is the making of Zelda gams or Mario gams and stuff? Why is this tradition not as strong in game making as it is in movie making? OK, vidya gam is mostly just overworked nerds at computers, but there must be some cool preproduction and stuff to show?

Yeah, I know there are many out there, but it seems less common in big studios where as it's pretty much a necessity for any big movie production and always on the DVD or whatever. Only a few big game companies seem to do this. I think that's a bit sad.

developer's commentary in portal is prob the most prominent, if you're talking about stuff integrated in the game

Making ofs aren't that usual anymore really. Studios seem to make a couple minute youtube videos nowadays. Kinda interesting how they used to be one of the selling points when DVD came. LOTR special edition DVD's had FANTASTIC making of stuff.
