I had dinner with nintendo the other night and I can safely say that Nintendo is one of the nicest, most charming and most intelligent I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. You're all just jealous.

Yes, he is. He is the ancient Japanese ancestor of Gumby, and highly revered throughout all Japan. You need to brush up on your history lessons. Pictured: Gumpei Yokoi

Of course growing up in a country you belong, being clearly represented, is not the same as growing up asian american, with memory of your grand parent being send to camp for being asian, even though they were patriotic as fuck, with cartoon and role made to humiliate you.

Of course growing up in a country you belong, being clearly represented, is not the same as growing up asian american, with memory of your grand parent being send to camp for being asian, even though they were patriotic as fuck, with cartoon and role made to humiliate you. I get that, but what I was expecting is that they'd be upset that a Japanese character wouldn't be played by a Japanese actor (or at least someone who looks the part) but they were like "Yeah, whatever. It's cool." This contrasts greatly with a lot of (predominantly white) American opinions that, for example, have people losing their shit over Deadshot (Suicide Squad) being portrayed by a black actor (Will Smith) because the character is "supposed to be" white. That is what I found interesting, that the actor of the role was not even as remotely important to them as how well it will be acted (and that everyone should be given a fair shot at the role regardless of their race or nationality). On the other hand, there was the outrage at Memoirs of a Geisha both in Japan and in China because a lot of the lead roles were given to a Chinese actors/actresses. So I don't know if the opinions expressed in the video I posted are just general opinions of the younger generations, people in that specific area he was interviewing, the fact it was made by a Japanese-owned company, or what.

For the same reason some african don't get mad that american movie whitewash black role. Outside of racist society, most problem turn into class problem. They don't have any reason to be made because there is no context for them at all.
China and Japan have a lot of context between them (nankin anyone?) so does they have with Korea (that damn imperialism mimicked from the western world!). Meanwhile in Japan there was the marshall plan that shift perspective and impacted the culture greatly.
Context is everything.

You made me doubt myself http://www.u-s-history.com/pages/h1852.htmlsource? I would be curious if it's another "hiroshima" case, (japan didn't capitulate because of that, they capitulate in the same timing). Ie small innacurracy repeated everywhere.

i think "hiroshima was necessary to end WW2" is just something mericans say to justify what was obviously a war crime.

I think it's possible that the atom bomb prevented annexation of the upper parts of Japan by the Soviets and Chinese by causing an early surrender.

Well hardcore historian will tell you that no, because there is no cause and effect to capitulation, the process was already underway and the napalm bombing of tokyo was way more devastating, the nuclear was mostly a symbolic end rather than an effective one.
