Doesn't have to be better, of course. Just be there.

I would. I think there's value in closed environments. Maybe not for serious productions, sure.

I had a similar idea. But I think my solution is to think of ways to improve literally anything.

1 you could have any application you need open in your OS with no load time
2 importing work to another app takes no time
3 the screen never gets cluttered and everything you open is easy to find and files never end up in the wrong folder
4 no surprise pop-ups
5 no crashes
6 no bugs in any application

i used gm's built in sprite editor when i still made games. i'm not an artist and the art in my games was always either really simple or placeholder, so it was fine for my purposes.

You know what would be really cool? A full game making environment, not just an engine. You open it, make your art in it, code your stuff. All in a single neat package.

Pico-8 does it but it comes with its (sometimes fun) limitations too. Sometimes I don't want to challenge myself with limitations; In fact, sometimes I want the opposite! sometimes I feel so lazy I just want a ready to work environment where I can dump my ideas as fast as possible.

Dreams on PS4 is what you‘re looking for; it‘s wonderful btw

i just wanted to give some wider recognition to my favourite regular dev log poster on this forum.

hijong park makes tons of really fun, nicely polished games inspired by 80s arcade games. he did a really snappy

style game, really good versions of

and defender, a cool twin stick shooter take on choplifter and raid on bungeling bay.

right now he's working on his first 3d game in game maker which is berserk meets doom meets resident evil 4, and it looks like it works out really well. he's postponed working on it to focus on his school exams(!) and i feel this wonderkid could do with some more activity in his threads. thanks

I heard some gross Easter related stories and I can't express my disappointment so instead here's an anecdote. As a bunny.

I was sniffing some grass and a bunny hopped up to me, and I must have ate some of the grass, this'll be important later.

My mother, also a bunny, was angry. Because eating grass in front of another makes you friends, well, I can't forget that moment, and to this day I jump away and kick whenever. I never saw that bunny longer than half a second.  But, you see, I don't kick because of any reason, I just feel it.

A fight or flight response is perfectly normal, and may cause massive damage to the other person.

Not sure if I can explain it. You'll have to learn about brainwaves, here's a short version.

There are alpha and beta brainwaves. Alpha is relaxing state, and more numerous in children. When you shift from alpha to beta and back repeatedly it is known to be experienced as fear.

So, by needlessly exciting beta brainwaves and associating emotions, children can exhibit some bad habits because they aren't usually experienced thinking excited or under stress.  But more importantly, fear isn't a state of mind that lasts very long but it could be loaded with programmed conditioning.

...

I guess the opposite can happen too now that kids have so much sugar, it'd be like turning into a different person when they take depressants.

I'll put it another way. You can't be forgiven when you punch someone in the dick.

thank you for bringing this duder to my attention. his work reminds me of ikiki, kenta cho, maybe early cactus in a way. just lots of cool small action games with a neat aesthetic.
