In 60 Seconds is a metroidvania. It features 10 unique powerups, 4 different areas, a boss fight and multiple endings. And it has all this... in just 60 seconds!

DOWNLOAD

(Whoops! For a while there, I uploaded a version which was all screwed up because it was still in 'testing mode'. Apparently only 41 people downloaded that version though, so it's no big deal.)

The new version has music by Marc Kamradt. Thanks Marc!

Apart from the music there are only a few minor changes in the final version.

Looking for any feedback you can give me, but especially in these areas:
- Is the premise of the game clear enough?
- How is the difficulty? Is it easy or hard? Did you have to try many times, and if so, did this bother you?
- Are the sound effects ok? Grating, perhaps?
- What about the graphics? I know they're not great but are they acceptable? Can you look at them without wanting to claw your eyes out?
- Putting this in spoiler tags, not because it's a huge surprise when you see it but because I want people to play the game without this in mind

Thanks, everyone!

The premise is clear.
The game is hard because I'm punished for playing it like a traditional platformer. I haven't beaten it (I tried 5 times) and I'm not going to play it again because I don't particularly like memorization-based games, especially speedruns.
Sounds and graphics are cool, except the ding when I prezz Z to start game.

I give up.  I shot down the "boss," but then there's more shooting.  No way I will ever have time to figure out from what or where.

I liked the panic feeling, though.

I really like this game!
It has a nice style, and a cool concept.
(I also beat the game. Rank C Tongue)

The premise was clear enough. Kind of like a streamlined Megaman (get X to clear Y).
I still haven't beaten it yet, but I did get to the boss. I may play again, but feel no particular motivation to right now, especially since I know the game will end with the boss.
The SFX is fine for the type of game. Didn't hear anything particularly offensive. I really like the gameover jingle. (3 blind mice)
The GFX is very pleasant. The colors were wonderful (reminds me of the early consoles) and the sprites have a good consistent style.
This may sound kind of silly but the 60 second thing was the biggest draw in getting me to try this - kind of like a telemarketer telling you in advance that this call will end in 60 seconds no matter what. (Not that I'm comparing your game to direct marketing)

Before I can beat this, I think I need the expansion: "30 more seconds"

btw- are any of the power ups total red herrings that you can skip without needing them?

That's a great idea for some DLC.  Game is free.  Extra 30 seconds is ten bucks!

Beat it in with a C with a 4:48, it got much easier once I got the super punch. From there everything's right next to each other, and it's very simple to avoid the remaining enemies. I guess what I'm saying is that the game has a reversing difficulty curve, especially with the boss.

I like it though! It's very clever.

I got an A rank, 'cuz I'm such a cool dude.  Cool

Or, more accurately, my computer started slowing down and the beginning section was a lot easier when everything's in slow motion.

Really cool game. Testing and balancing it must have been hard.

that was fun!  Beer!

first i thought: well 60 seconds...not that much to discover all the stuff that you mentioned... but the game mechanic unfolds pretty well: collect a) to get to b) etc.
i needed about 6-8 tries and it was never frustrating.
the graphics  are pretty good (maybe improve the title screen a bit and thats it) and so are the sound effects
->i would like to see a longer game in that style.

i made an epic walkthrough with rank b Gentleman
(of course i left all the gems aside for a less hectic game experience...
no time for fancy gems  Wink

1 min walkthrough ( 4MB / 640x480 MP4)

also i found one trap that doesnt allow you to solve the game in the given 60 seconds.
(first i thought it was a hidden passage where i can get some gems...but then it was crystal clear that there were no way out!)

heres the proof:
stuck in 30 seconds! ( 0,5 MB / 640x480 MP4)

I liked this. Bite-sized metroidvania, so cute. I didn't think that the graphics were offensive at all, they're very simple and they get the job done. The title screen illustration and the ending one could use some more work, though. The difficulty is pretty much perfect, for me; took me like ten tries to finish it, and it will take me more to do it with a better rank. The spoilers didn't bother me at all, they added to the sense of discovery.

I think you can squeeze out a tune for this. You'll feel so proud for it!

Oh my god.  I'm mildly retarded.

I didn't realize you had to kill the eye a second time after downing the boss....

Lol for the longest time I didn't know how to kill the boss. I would punch it once so that it fell to the ground but then I'd try to punch the invisible thing still shooting at me.

4:14 left, A rank.

Only took about 10 minutes, I noticed that you can get the super punch without the regular one, shaving seconds off your clear time.
