Yah the abundance of porn on Patreon is not so much about Patreon encouraging it as it is about the lack of any other (legal) channels for selling porn. Big stores like Steam don't want to carry pornographic games, and Paypal will terminate your account if they find out you're using it to sell pornography. Although paypal doesn't seem to enforce this rule very often, it's still a bad idea to publicly advertise your paypal if you're using it for pornographic work.

The alternative is posting a censored version of your game on Steam and then distributing an official patch for the game that enables the pornographic content. I've seen some hentai VN devs do this and it seems to work alright for them.

Isn't there something of a war on sex games? Robert Yang's games (not porn, but focused on sex) have been banned from Twitch and, I think, Steam. For this reason, maybe funding sex games through Patreon could be a positive. It gives opportunities to those locked out of the traditional avenues.
