Hey guys! Lately I have been seeing a lot of awesome games with pixel art and they unburied my interest in learning to make some decent pixel art, nothing breathtaking, I just want to be able to enter some game jams and be able to make a game on my own that looks good or make small silly games that don't require a team.

I'm a game programmer and I have been so from some years now, so while I'm an experience developer, I'm also a complete noob when it comes to making art by myself. Could you guys give me some advice to start? What to learn first or if you think it's just a pipe dream of mine, any help and/or perspective is welcome.  Beg

You can maybe start with some tutorials:

http://www.hongkiat.com/blog/pixel-art-tutorials/

I recommend you to grab some nice PixelArt program and learn about palettes and colors, use some games for reference, start with nes stile and switch to snes and so on.

There you go some tools for pixelart: https://itch.io/tools/tag-pixel-art some of them are free.

replicate some animations from mario/zelda/megaman, or the games you like and start doing "fantart" first as a practice.

I like a lot a practice of drawing all pokemons in pixel art, that way you practice a lot of colors/shapes and you gotta draw em all. Smiley

First is learning fundamentals and practice then drawing.
Next is specific media/tool/style things like pixel-art.
Then you repeat the first and next forever.

Or check tutorials, try to make something, look yourself, show to others, see the reaction, then if you can feel it's not good enough and get ideas what exactly you need to learn to make better - dig into required fundamentals, anatomy, animation principles etc
This practice is too cool to skip btw: https://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?topic=2960.0

I will definitely check those tutorials, thanks man.

That's my plan, the thing is that I was a little lost and didn't know where to start, but I have been searching for tutorials and books and now I have an idea of what to do.
