Being that we are in an industry that requires quick, concise and powerful elevator pitches, let's try a bit of an exercise.

People, a game is an experience, one of which you want to place users/players in the driver seat of.

So tell me, what is the use of a pitch that does not communicate experiential value?

Would you describe a crime you witnessed to police as Italian Job meets Nightmare on Elm Street?
[ex. Creep carjacks tiny, designer cars with sneakiness and claw hand]

Or...

Would you describe your first time having sex as Bubble Bobble + sadness?
[ex. Have rooftop sex with your love before tsunami hits]

NO!

Naming mechanics does not communicate experience nor does naming a collage of unrelated experiences.

The trick to doing it well is the simplicity in what needs to be said; just enough to trigger the substance of imagination.

Ok, say the publisher does know those games. You still haven't communicated the experience of your game. What are Smith and Winston shooting at and for what reason? Do I get to experience being a hero or a genocidal maniac? A lot of questions can be answered in a well designed pitch.

It's that whole less is more thing, ya know?
