Virtucity

Virtucity is a project that dates way back to 2005. Originally started by another user from the simtropolis board named Atomic or markkochan. I saw this project on the old game maker forums and wanted to be a part of it. The original owner gave up and so did I,  but I kept coming back after a year. This is my 3rd time or 4th I'm not sure. I lost the source to my old build which is good and bad at the same time.
This time I decided to use source control and made a repository on bitbucket. I've started working on it 4 days ago and this is where I am at:

The art was made by a guy a I found on the game maker forum but he quit too.
Eventually I'll redo the art my self since I can't replicate his style.

Looks very SimCity 2000-esque. How are you planning on differentiating from other city builders? If I were you I would perhaps consider making an open-source version of SimCity 2000, similar to OpenTTD. SC2000 is a fun game, but doesn't run very well on modern computers. Adding modern sensibilities to it would be awesome. An open-source project like that would definitely garner attention too.

I'm focusing on multiple cities and connecting them together.
When you build a city, you would need to import resources from nearby NPC cities.
If you don't produce any resources, they will be imported from other cities (the closer, the cheaper for industries and commerce, thus more profit for them and for you).
Real time market for stocks. Stuff like that.
