As an avid user of photographs in the public domain to create textures from, I've decided to put some textures I've made for Frog Days in the public domain. These textures come from photos I've taken either with my cellphone camera or my actual camera and edited by me in Photoshop CS6.

All of these images are free to use in whatever you need them for, free or commercial, no need credit needed.
https://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/

That is, if you find them useful. None of these are really up to today's texture standards, but maybe if you're making a game with old-style 3d look you'll find them useful.

All of these are tiling images so they can be used with texturing options such as "generated" or "global" in Blender. Useful for when you don't want to worry about UV mapping and seams!

Originally grimy car paneling, but maybe it can be a smooth stone floor. Size: 512x512

The metal from a car engine. Size: 1024x1024

Plastic surface, useful to give a surface a bit of variance and texture. Size: 512x512

Tree bark, for trees. Size: 1024x1024

Lemon skin. Size: 1024x1024

Meat. You can make a meat cube, torus, hallway, what could be more beautiful than a wedding ring with a meat texture, huh! Size: 1024x1024

Tiling cloth black/white image. I've been using this as a bump map to supplement folds when dealing with cloth. Size: 1024x1024

An unnecessarily high resolution texture from the seat belt in my car. Size: 2048x2048

Part of a palm tree. Size: 1024x1024

Tree bark for a smaller tree. Size: 512x512

Wood for furniture! Size: 512x512

I'm sure I'll post more, but for now these the ones I've made that are of good enough quality to share.

Nice. I guess these'll come in handy when doing 3D.

Such juicy textures! I don't 3D, but I may use one or two of them in my drawings. Thanks for sharing!!

Thanks Clipper + maruki!

I've updated the topic so that the image links are through imgur instead of dropbox as dropbox is changing how their public file sharing works and won't support image tags in the future.

How about some more stuff!

I meant to post these awhile ago, some more textures made from pics I've taken. Once again it's all public domain, use these however you want if you have a use for them!

Pebble walkway, 2048x2048

Bathroom counter, 1024x1024

Oh also this one! I made this awhile ago from a photo of the floor at the local YMCA...

No problem! I hope they serve you well!

Yesterday I went to a Waffle House and had to use the bathroom. The there was some tile on the wall so I took a pic and made it a texture(1024x1024)

It's can be used as is but maybe later I'll make a bigger variation with more varied tile color distribution.

However this could be useful in making some much more varied tile:

I haven't tried it yet but it's very possible in Blender to use this as the bump map(and use multiply color influence), have another map for the grout color, then use a much lower resolution image for color variation(or maybe even a procedural one), and another image of your choosing could be used as the actual texture or pattern for the tiles themselves. Feasible for pre-rendered graphics(I use layering techniques similar to that all the time), not sure how it would work for real time.

A few more textures. I needed a better grass texture than the one I made awhile ago but then figured I might as well make a couple more basic textures.

Backyard grass, 2048x2048

Carpet, 2048x2048

Painted wall overlay, 1024x1024. This one can be used as is but I'd recommend not using the color and instead using it as a subtle bump map to give painted walls a little bit of detail. Haven't used it yet but I bet it would break up the specular quite nicely...

Here's some textures so you can make your own brownies!

Brownie top, 1024x1024

Brownie top variation, 1024x1024

Brownie top darker(for crust), 512x512

Brownie, side part, 1024x1024

What I did with my brownies is make 3 materials, 1 for the top, 1 for the side and 1 for the crust, then use 2 vertex color maps to blend the materials. 1 map to mix the top material over the side material, and the other map to mix the crust.

*This is for Blender Internal, not very useful if you're use Cycles to render things*

Your textures are pretty good, but have you considered providing accompanying maps to your textures? Your brownie render suggests you are not familiar with the concept.

This video explains why they are important:

It's actually quite rare to find free textures that come with a good set of normal and specular maps, so I think you'd really be doing a service.

Thank you! I am familiar with separate maps for specular, bump, normal, etc... Poliigon has some of the highest quality textures you can find for an extremely fair price, they would be very useful to anyone trying to make things that take advantage of today's texture and rendering standards. But for my uses right now I don't really need separate maps and they can be quite a challenge and very time consuming to make ones that look good.

The brownies will be in my game, Frog Days, and the aim isn't photorealism by today's standards but photorealism from the mid to late 90s. I guess "plastic" realism. I make my textures with that in mind and share them in case there is anyone else out there who wants that kind of look.

Honestly Poliigon is well worth the price consider the amount of work that goes into each texture... I wish I could provide the same quality but there's a reason they're selling those hehe! Wink
