Hourly wage or milestone-based payments?

Is revenue share acceptable?

Nope. This game will cost you several hundred to thousands to make in 2D. Probably several thousand if you want 3D. Plus you'll need lawyers and contracts and funding to set up some sort of LLC and the payment system.

No decent developer will take revenue share.

Yeah, sorry to be the voice of reason here but no-one who just has a story is gonna get a game made unless they do it by themselves (i.e. download an interactive fiction game maker and get cracking) or they have a giant pile of money. And I mean giant. D'you have $100,000 sitting around? Well, you'll get something very modest for that, so you better find a bigger pile.

Me, David Williamson and Mark Foster do an Indie Games podcast. Give it a listen. And then I'll send you an apology.

I guess I'm better off getting stuff published rather than into a game...

As a writer its naturally your job to tell other people on a project what to do, and these are often people who think they can do it better themselves and, when compared to newly minted writers, are often right.

Make your own game. Make it small, make it doable. You don't have the same sellable skill as an artist or a programmer. Unless you've got a lucky connection, get used to being a writer/producer rather than just a writer. And also add programmer in there as well.

And designer.

And potentially artist/musician.
