Update 1 [09.03.2017]: Our Kickstarter goal has now been met!
There's now a $1,500 stretch goal to implement an endless 'roguelike' mode where players can journey deeper and deeper into the Organ Quarter, facing an ever-increasing level of challenge.
Original post:Hello everyone,
Outer Brain Studios here. We’re an international team working on Organ Quarter, a VR survival horror game focused on what made survival horror great: labyrinthine environments, resource management and a drizzle of puzzling. Among our favourite games are Silent Hill 2, Resident Evil (1996) and Alone in the Dark (1992) so we'd love to pay homage to these slow, methodical experiences. This includes a compelling world and universe, as well as a great adventure.
Here’s the twist: we’re also going to leverage hand-tracked and room-scale VR to provide the most intense and unsettling experience possible. We’re going to bring horror into the realm of the intimate. Horror in your personal space as well as in a larger world.
The demo (
which you can play here on Steam) was developed over August and September 2016 and launched just before Halloween, October 2016.
It’s currently HTC Vive only for the development period – but in due course it's very likely to come to Oculus Rift w/ Touch and even get a non-VR build.
We're aiming for a decent length for the full game, similar to Resident Evil 1 (4-6 hours but longer for methodical players/replayers). We want this to be a proper VR adventure – not just a series of short scenes or a wave shooter or a "walking simulator". The world will be large and interconnected with various "dungeons" to explore.
We’re going to be pressing ahead with a Kickstarter in the next week or so. Will post any updates here.
Our targeted launch window is this summer.
In the last week or two we launched an update to the demo, adding new content, tutorial functionality and tweaks and enhancements throughout.
The update comprises:
- an improved tutorial section, ensuring players have the best experience possible
- additional enemies
- additional enemy types
- new enemy positioning
- tweaks to damage and resource balancing
- enhancements to animations and feedback
- various bug fixes and performance improvements
