Does it help? Any other opinions?

I'm thinking about following through and doing this, with the hopes of having a good
base line as a programmer, then getting back into trying to learn C++ and unreal engine.

I'm not wanting to get stuck in the infamous autodidact trap of trying to figure "what to learn"
because then I'll never accomplish anything, but I think a more academic baseline could help
push me in the direction of putting out better informed code, which could translate to better
code for whatever games I create.

A formal education in software is a good thing.  It will expose you to ideas, techniques and concepts that you never knew existed.  If you enjoy programming, then a formal education (in any language) will make you a better programmer.
