overall i have a slight preference for discreet and classic UI over original but out of place UI.

i don't hate really hate it because it's not out of place, it suits the excentrism of persona universe.
i just think that the best ui are the one you don't notice. I noticed that some developers design UI as a separate procedure with graphic and game design and it's probably a mistake.

Not sure if this applies to your game at all, but for games with more complex control schemes, i love having a control guide on screen a la the n64 zelda games or assassins creed. Im bad at memorizing controls.

Really tho, i like any UI that gives me the info i need and fits with the game's art style. The last one is really important to me. For instance I don't like Skyrim's UI because it looks too sleek and "futuristic" for a fantasy game/
