 -- WHAT IS BULLETIN? --

Bulletin is an "action turn-based" hybrid RPG about INTERNET FORUMS, inspired by awesome stuff like:

  • Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga
  • Homestuck
  • Problem Sleuth
  • The Nameless Mod
  • Mortis Ghost's OFF
  • Neverhood
  • Resident Evil

My goal with this game is to show people how the internet can change an individual's life, for better or for worse.

I don't know how to draw and anatomy still freaks me the fuck out, but I think I came up with a rather... "unique" art style:

MORE PICTURES. CLICK ME!

god bless ms paint.

-- WHAT IS IT ABOUT? --

okay so, you and your dad accidentally clicked on a wrong link and the-oh you know what screw it, have a video of the first four minutes (WIP)

Here's a quick rundown though:

 - you and your dad click a wrong link and end up in Pufferfish Forums
 - Pufferfish Forums is owned by Pufferfish Studios, a gamedev company
 - they made MIGHTY BASS, the world’s greatest fishing game
 - they’re about to release a Mighty Bass REBOOT (that apparently sucks)
 - fans get pissed off, shitstorm ensues, shitposting hits an all time high
 - the only moderator capable of containing the situation goes missing
 - users report sightings of a weird massive black cloud thingy approaching the forums

Your goal is simple: find a way back home.

 -- COMBAT --

here, have a quick preview of the combat system:

Because of Bulletin, I started messing around with old analog synthesizers. I'm still learning, but I think I'm on the right track.

so yeah. I'll be posting some updates in here every now and then.

(the width tag thingy didn't work out D: what am I doing wrong?)

also, here's a small preview of the inventory system! it was inspired by System Shock 2.

should an object touch another object / the bag's walls when you close the bag, said object will be dropped.

i hope you're good at tetris!

(the width tag thingy didn't work out D: what am I doing wrong?)

(cubeupload seems a bit slow and doesn't work when resiezed but imgur works fine)

your project really shines when in motion and the soundtrack sounds promising, good luck.

got some progress!

First of all, I've found someone who's going to work on the game's soundtrack: Robert J Lake! (@spellbang)
Hear that battle theme? he made it.

Anyway, i've been trying to make combat harder. Now you have to time your attacks correctly AND press the movement keys in the right direction. Screw that up and your strike won't deal that much damage. Also, blood.

Oh my...

This looks so good. I love every part of it. Visuals, theme and the sound design is really good, especially in your last video.

There's just one thing I'm worried about. The encounter we saw in your last combat video, I guess those are just "trash" mobs, I mean they're not meant to be challenging, right? Because, I don't know how you're planning to pace your game, but I would love to know what you got in mind. Because, most of the time I tend to see games that add a lot of those just to make the player busy, which for me, just bore me to death.

One way to make them more interesting is to add extra satisfaction when you master it. Not necessarily with loots. Juicy visuals, sounds, or quickier completion if you use the right attacks with the good tactics.

So yeah, I'm just thinking out loud. Your game really looks good so I'm being overly curious :D

Anyway, can't wait to see more of this!

Yeah, these mobs are just your average cannon fodder. I'm currently working on enhancing the whole "attack chain" thing, I want it to feel more satisfying. Skilled players should be able to quickly eliminate foes with ease. I want to be really careful with combat: I want it to feel satisfying, somehow.

I'm so glad to read this :]

Maybe there's a way to replicate the same satisfying feeling you got when moderating and saving a forum? Somehow...

Anyway, can't wait to see more of this, keep it up!

DAD joins the fight!

DAD is a DEBUFFER/TANK. He uses BOOK-TYPE weaponry. He has more than average health and deals less damage than the main character, but his main strength lies in one of his files(skills), NETGUIDE.PDF.

THE WORLD'S GREATEST INTERNET GUIDE (for parents) VOLUME III allows DAD to quickly gather information and compreheend an enemy's attack patterns, thus lowering their damage output by 25%.

You'll be able to equip DAD with other books for different effects.

this is what the game looked like one year ago

this is what it looks like now.

i've also added a thread viewing/rating system!

rating certain posts will change how specific NPCs feel towards you.

i'm also reworking the combat system. I want it to be FASTER.

Last but not least, here's an album with all I've done over the last year!

“These users, once mere mortals, became our saviors. Not just warrior-gods, not just shapeshifters: Moderators.

Wielding their mighty Banhammers, they would protect us from the hordes of hell and strike our enemies in a way they could never comprehend.

Moderator Clay was the first.”
