Interesting, it looks like a texture change on the eyes mostly. Change a lot.

Yup, they made the upper part of the iris darker, which makes the eyes look more relaxed.

Also less obvious makeup lol

The upper eyelid generally casts a shadow on the eye (the darkening of the upper iris), without that shadow we assume the eye must be open really wide which is where we get the derranged stare downs in the pre-patch version. The could improve it all even further if they just lowered the upper eyelid position in a lot of the expressions (or in some cases raised and puffed the lower lid) just a bit which combined with the iris shadow they added in the patch would pretty much fix the majority of the problem.

May be possible that originally someone just made eyeball spheres separate from everything else and mailed them in, or it was resulted from shader shenanigans mid development, which explains excessive brightness.

Perhaps they wanted the eyes to "pop" without realizing they weren't working on a cartoon.

I bought this game and then found out my computer can't handle it. Based on what people have been saying...not sure I want to play it if I get it upgraded.

Witcher 3: two and a half
No 18 month of development, they scraped 3 years on a failed direction first.
