My fellow TIGers!

The time has come for yet another TIGS writing competition, for too long have we gone without.

The idea is simple: write something. A short story, a poem, whatever your heart desires, so long as it pertains to the theme and falls within the guidelines set forth in this post.

Keep in mind that this is for fun.
There will be no prize save the admiration of your peers, the bragging rights of being an awesome writer, and the satisfaction of having written an awesome thing.

The winner will be determined by community vote. 'Nuff said.

Without further ado, I present the theme for the second TIGS writing compo:

"THE PURSUIT"

This theme is open to interpretation, so be creative!


Rules for Submissions
  Submissions may be poetry, short stories, or just words tossed together in some fashion that befits neither poem nor story.
  Submissions must be under or roughly at 1,000 words in length. Roughly means +/- 10 words.
  Submissions must follow the competition theme in some form. Open to interpretation, yes, but please make it pertinent!
  Writings must be submitted by (more or less) midnight on the 31st of May, 2009.
  Post your entries in this thread. If you post a WIP here please put it in a link and mark it as such. Final entries should preferably be posted outright, but if you post a link please clearly mark it as the final version.
  Submissions must be text-only. No pictures may be included with the story (though if someone wants to make a poster for the compo that'd be rad).
  Hyperlinks, coloured text, oversized text and other foolishness will void your story's qualification and it will not appear in the vote. Formatting such as indentations and alignment are permitted.
  Boldness, italics, underlines and strikethroughs are tolerable within reason.
  Up to 3 entries are allowed from each competitor, as long as none of the submissions are connected to another.
  Any entry may be withdrawn by the submitter at any time should they so decide. Withdrawn entries will not count towards the 3 entry maximum.

            Or is it perhaps all a fantasy?
               Because when I advance, which I really try my best to do...
         I have actually taken another two steps into the past!
            Perhaps, however, this pursuit is a reality.
               Perhaps it is not a falsity!
         But...
      I can't seem to, “get a grip,” as one might say.
   No, this pursuit is one of lies and deceit.
   Are they being played on me?
   Or am I playing them on others?
   Oh, no matter, for it is time.

Circling with the earth she stands warily on,

Oh, to be righted by the only right
Steadied by the only rock not rock at all
But a fluid, tremulous thing of grace
Powerful and frail, that a gust of wind might stir him,
But never put him out.
To know what it is
To be set afire with the heat of his glow.
To be rent at the seams of a million atoms,
To hear each one sing as it collapses undone
Every inch from here to there a frayed wire buzzing
Flailing to its own energy, almost alive and whispering,

Look how her lonely visage sits
She is not so pretty.
She is not so special.
But she daily dances and the sun smiles down
To warm her.

I started writing something in terza rima but then realized that I can't write poetry. :D

Are we allowed to do multiple entries?

(Not that I'm planning to do 20 "The Pursuit" texts in 10 days...   )

Multiple entries are allowed as long as they are not connected to each other.

Ah, maybe I should set a limit to the number of entries for each person? It'd be hell to have to read tons of entries for voting and socially awkward to have tons of entries by one person outnumber a smaller quantity from others.
