Hello everyone!
We're working on Apocalypse Cow and I'd like your help to select a cover.
I don't want to say what this game is about - instead I would prefer if you told me which cover would make you click through and what would you expect the game to be about.
Every opinion is valuable to us...
Thanks guys!!!
--- UPDATE: We've finished analyzing the feedback. See the last post for more info! In a nutshell, #2 and #3 where pretty close but 2 came out on top. I posted the final version and I'm open to feedback!

Absolutely the second one. It has the feeling that something is going to happen. I would expect a game about playing baseball and thinking that it's time to check out the weird tower.

Haha, awesome description! It's always great to see what someone else is seeing... she's actually not holding a bat, it's going to be a blood-stained Katana. But I'm starting to like the bat as a weapon now!

Yeah, I have to say that was my personal opinion too, but we're probably the minority! On Facebook 2 & 3 seem to be getting more traction so far. I'll post the aggregated results here in 2 days.

3 and 4 seem more like classic console cartridge covers, but 1 and 2 look more cool. I don't recognize your characters, so seeing them up close (as in 3 & 4) doesn't mean much to me. The implied action of 1 and 2 interests me more. The more intricate value arrangement of 3 makes it kind of hard to read. 4 is pretty classic though.
After that I get more picky (I'm sure your artist would fix this stuff in the next iteration). The characters' poses in 2 are clearer than those in 1, and the zig-zag in of the foreground path is nice. But, other than those two things, 1 has a lot of things working better than 2. 2 is just too complicated. The extra high-contrast shapes around the central figure weaken her impact a lot; that pipe on the left is really stealing attention; the small, high-contrast shapes of the trees, fence, etc., are a little bit too distracting; and the big, boss-monster guy in the background gets lost against the darker sky. 1 has a rock-solid focal point on the girl with the katana—that nice big white shape behind her and connecting her to the foreground shadow mass really does it, plus the concentric rings and lack of any other distractions. I look at, 1. katana-girl, 2. other characters doing stuff, 3. giant monster guy in the back.
There's a girl with a sword so I'm assuming there will be combat in this game. The other characters seem to be tinkering with some gadgets, which makes me think of operating machines in Dungeon of the Endless. Mushrooms and Mario pipes make me think of Super Mario platforming stuff. There's multiple characters who look like they have different tasks, so I'm thinking local co-op too?
I wouldn't say 4 is particularly original, it seems like standard book or movie cover format to me: level, symmetrical composition, head-and-torso portraits of 1-3 characters close in foreground, stuff in the background teasing other elements of the story. I wouldn't say any of them are terribly original actually, but that's not a bad thing. You generally want a cover to read easily from some distance. Hmm . . . 4 is just too cutesy for my taste, especially if this is any kind of combat-oriented game. But it depends on your intended audience.

2 seems best from illustration standpoint because of clean silhouette, but it may change with color. Also is that a steam thumbnail? If so, logo is required and it may change composition drastically.

Funny, for all the talk about how 2's better there seems to be no votes for it here.
I prefer 3. 2's nice too, but it's a bit cliched.

Definitely 2, with 4 as my second favorite.
1 doesn't really paint a good picture of what to expect for me. 2 looks like an awesome action-adventure game. Three makes it look like a tower defense game I'd find on Facebook or something. And 4 looks more character-driven than the others.

Thanks to all answers and votes! @Ross: Very detailed analysis. Yes, the game is action oriented. It's actually a comedic adventure. You control Penny, the other two are her BFF's and are "sidekicks". I tallied the various places I posted this and 2 & 3 got the most traction. We updated 3 to also show the facials, they're vital to the concept and I believe it was an oversight, not having them in there from the start. So this is the final round!

I'd prefer a combination of the two, go with the top image but instead of a sword the girl on the pipe should have the selfie stick. This would mesh well with the casual nature of the other two in the pic and also give a nice comedic contrast to the dramatic nature of the scenery and "camera" angle. Like so:

Without looking at anything else No 2 looks most intriguing. Looks like there is a conflict and an adventure is about to start. The guy in the middle on the tube is promoting this impression the most, so there are possibly ways to emphasize it more.
No 3 looks like a "happy social adventure", but if that's the actual game then it might be suiting.

The results are out and I promised I'd share them. I posted the covers to forums and social groups and I probably got about 150 votes/comments overall. Not a huge amount but enough to feel confident. In the end #2 came on top, with #3 following closely. One interesting thing that I noticed was that gaming focused groups favored #2 more heavily. Game development focused groups again picked #2 over the rest but by a smaller margin. Most of the people that picked #2 said they considered it an invitation to an adventure and they liked that feeling. #3 on the other hand was mostly picked for the clear facials and the fun aspect. #1 and #4 had considerably less votes. So here it is. The new cover for Apocalypse Cow! Feedback is always welcome!
