Whoo! Top 50 in Innovation. That has to be one of the best rankings in any category I've gotten so far:

Overall: 256 (3.35 average in 0 ratings)
Fun: 166 (3.45 average in 0 ratings)
Innovation: 50 (3.85 average in 0 ratings)
Theme: 518 (2.35 average in 0 ratings)
Graphics: 469 (2.55 average in 0 ratings)
Humor: 338 (2.25 average in 0 ratings)
Mood: 431 (2.625 average in 0 ratings)

Not sure out of how many entries that is that actually got scored, but hey, I'm still pretty happy given how "programmerish" my game was!

Edit: Oops, should've posted a link to the game. Next poster did it for me, thanks. Wink

Impressive! Is your game a Compo or Jam game? Could you provide a link?

Edit: Nevermind, found your (Compo) game here

Cool, congrats!

What am I supposed to compare scores against? The number of other jam games? Where do I see?

Here are some statistics:
https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38

Some user assembled this ranking list:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1PkQfN3QQ2Gk_6-Ic_JI9je28SHvPUnLCEfTDEUjUF-o/edit#gid=0

Another user created histograms based on that list above:
https://infogr.am/ld38_result_histograms

In your case: 1840 entries in Jam, around 780 ranked in the first four categories, less entries ranked in the four opt-out categories (Graphics, Audio, Humor and Mood).

More official statistics may be revealed in a wrap up post, which is announced to be published on monday.

Looks like some of you got really good placements. Cheers to you all.   Gentleman

Here's how The world is (a) flat managed.

Overall: #424    (3.306 average in 38 ratings)
Fun: #606    (2.722 average in 38 ratings)
Innovation: #321    (3.25 average in 38 ratings)
Theme: #72    (4.057 average in 37 ratings)
Graphics: #437    (3.361 average in 38 ratings)
Humor: #157    (3.333 average in 38 ratings)
Mood: #290    (3.4 average in 37 ratings)

Making #72 place in Theme is a personal record. My previous was I a #76 for Innovation.  Smiley

Looking at the more long term trend "fun" has been on a constant decline since my first entry. Maybe that's the toll I pay for insisting on narrative driven stuff. Shrug

My rankings are (https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/small-planet) :

Overall: 243 (3.387 average in 33 ratings)
Fun: 193 (3.355 average in 33 ratings)
Innovation: 380 (2.839 average in 33 ratings)
Theme: 156 (3.71 average in 33 ratings)
Graphics: 265 (3.29 average in 33 ratings)
Audio: 342 (2.484 average in 33 ratings)
Humor: 405 (1.962 average in 28 ratings)
Mood: 375 (2.815 average in 29 ratings)

I'm happy about the "Fun" category being in the top #200 Smiley

I also should've probably opted out of humor somehow..

I'm so tempted to participate!

Do it! Fall for the temptation!

Then next one is in the last weekend of July. It it's your first LD then be sure to do the warm-up weekend to.

It very early this summer, yes. I was expecting it to be in late August (and that would have meshed better with my other vacation plans).

The organizers seem to have good reasons though.

Quote from: PoV
Ludum Dare 39 - July 28th-31st weekend

Our next event will be during the tail end of July, in the final days before August begins: July 28th-31st.

Finding a suitable weekend during August 2017 was nightmare’ish at best. Every weekend either had a major industry event (GamesCom, PAX Prime), demoscene event (Assembly, Evoke), and the odd man out was the weekend of The International DOTA2 finals (the largest money eSports tournament, like a Superbowl without the funny commercials). There are very few other events I avoid when scheduling, but this and EVO are two I do.

After a very difficult selection process, basically trying to decide which August weekend I would choose to conflict with, I settled on doing it slightly early. Technically Siggraph and a GSL tournament are the same weekend, but my fandom of StarCraft and respect for Siggraph as a graphics coder aren’t enough to convince me to avoid it at this point.

So come back July 28th-31st weekend for Ludum Dare 39.
