Magical is probably not the right way to put it.

For our game, a fantasy action-RPG, I've been concepting the logo and have settled on something.

As you can see, the crystal-thing in the background is not finished. That is where the problem lies. It's supposed to be a ghost shard, which is kind of like... a solid form of a person's soul that manifests after they are killed. I'm having trouble figuring out how to shade it so it looks like a crystal that also seems like it is a soul too.

Here's the shard by itself:

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Souls don't exist, so do whatever for the "soul" bit.

I think here we need to steal (sorry take influence) from the greats.

So of course Final Fantasy:

Crystals and other rare materials have been stand-ins for souls and spiritual mcguffins for a long long time so steal away!

I think what you have know is a good start, but it needs more angles to it. If its a cut gem or a pearl I can understand the curves, but I think you need to commit to a style and use it for the whole thing. Shards should be sharp! If you think it needs more soul to it (I'm a riot I know), then add some mystical aura or glowy wisps around it.

Hope this helps and good luck!

So, I came up with this so far:

Something still seems off, but I feel as if I'm going *somewhere*. Tongue

I'd go for some reflected back light from the crystal on the letters as a secondary light source

Not sure how useful this ref would be but when you mentioned souls, the first thing that came to mind was Aerogel...might be worth a google? Smiley

I like airman4's approach.

A rather standard solution would be reflections and gradients. Sketch:

From top to bottom:
1. Original
2. Adding reflections, anime eyes
3. Gradients everywhere (clashing with your limited palette)
4. Dark background? White does look good, though.
