Is there anyone here experienced with using Yaml in a C++ system?

I'm on Ubuntu, trying to incorporate it into my one-file C++ project, but I've hit some hurdles.

I can see libyaml-dev in the apt repositories, and this is installed, but I can't find any documentation for how to actually use it.

I've also found yaml-cpp on Google Code which has great documentation, but I can't figure out how to build this in such a way that I can use it in my project.  I could add all the source code into my project, but I'd like something simpler for now.
