Funny Bug Story

Just had this pretty funny bug I wanted to share. So, I'm working on the dungeon room transitions and have added ability for characters to interact with doors. I was testing one of my levels and ended my turn expecting this Orc to come and attack me. But, to my surprise, the level ends instead. What happened? Well, it turns out that instead of attacking me, the Orc decided to turn around, open the door and leave, triggering the "next room event".

Gonna have to turn off the "interact with doors" for the AI I suppose, lol.

With all our recent posts showcasing ambient FX we've been adding to the game (lightning and thunder, rain, snow, butterflies, sunrays, fire, etc.), some concerns people have expressed is that our character animations seem too slow and soft. Well, I hope this video puts those concerns to rest!

Who would want to play as this ferocious Brown Bear in Summoners Fate?

I'm looking at your game for the first time, and I think your animations look great! I really like the fluidity on a lot of them, for example the treant summoning and attack you've got in the first post. Also, maybe it's a small thing, but I really like the look of your movement and LOS arrows; they look nice and clean while also making it immediately visually clear what's going on.

Thank you BusinessDog! You're the first person to comment on the move/LOS arrows. The pathing arrows was actually a suggestion from one of our long time Hero Mages players. During our early playtesting, you couldn't control pathing, just the location or attack target - but one of our players didn't like this because, while it was simple to control, it wasn't precise at getting your character positioned in the spot you wanted. Later, this became even more important when we introduced directional triggered abilities (counter attack, backstab, etc.). Using the arrows allows player to move, attack, and face desired direction all in the same gesture. This system also helped us with our design goal of faster battles. Most tactical games separate move/attack into separate actions. By combining these into a single gesture, we greatly reduce cognitive lag (human decision making time) by eliminating having to worry about the multitude of permutations with separate actions. Easier decisions -> more fluid gameplay -> happier players  Grin

I still think it should be called 'Summoner's Fate'. Because doesn't the Fate belong to them? I don't know, just an opinion.

Hi Pixelologist - Indeed, I agree with you. Funny story, the topic of the apostrophe was a good afternoon full discussion with the team. In the end, we took a lesson from my wife's maiden name - apostrophes are trouble for search engines, app titles, and so forth, so we finally surrended to going for the plain old trusty 'S'. Ah, the fun of game making!
