one thing i noticed is that, if you go looking for indie game marketing articles, each one article (or video) tries to do it all, to explain everything about marketing in a short span of time. considering people spend years learning marketing in university, that seems pretty foolish, and it's no wonder indies are still generally bad at marketing. instead it should be approached just like any other major skill (programming, visual art, music composition, sound design, etc.), nobody expects to read one article and learn how to program an indie game, or read one article and learn how to make great art, or great music. yet people expect to read one article and learn all they need to know about marketing
with that in mind, does anyone have any *substantive* marketing resource recommendations that don't try to be 'everything you need to know about indie marketing in 10 pages / 10 minutes'? e.g. specialist articles that delve deeply into one particular specialization within marketing, or even just huge books on marketing that are a good introduction to the field?
