I am a UI/graphics designer and new to indie game development. I was assigned as an Art Director in our company but I have no experience whatsoever.

Can anyone tell me what process I need to know for directing art?

I would like to hear everyones thoughts and insightful comments.

Type this in Youtube.  "Art Direction Bootcamp: How Being Different Makes All The Difference"
Watch it, then watch all GDC's videos that you may find worth while  Hand Metal Left

I think they'll give you some perspective for now until someone else post's. gl :D

I haven't seen that talk, so not sure if it's covered, but if you're new to game dev stuff then just remember - the most important thing isn't that it looks good. The most important thing is that the art helps to support the gameplay. There are a number of gaming specific things that you should be thinking about art wise, like whether the art in a game helps indicate to a player what they should do or where they should be going.

This video talks about it a bit:

Of course, your game should look beautiful as well Wink.
