hl2 was cool at the time because physics engines were still a fairly new concept but it has aged kind of poorly and now feels like a tech demo in places. hl1 influenced pretty much every subsequent shooter tho.

Valve just want to print money, was always their goal, they made HL because doom was installed on more computer than MSDOS, founded by an old MS employee.
