So I've started making a new game Entitled: Quest of a Mang. The game is going to cross various aspects of i wanna be the guy and zelda. It will contain 9 different worlds, which include 9 different dungeons, 10 bosses and several minibosses. There will be items in the game, Zelda style, So expect to see boomerangs and the like. I would say I've been making this game for about a month, but I would say that ive only been working on it for a total of 30-ish hours. So far I've been doing all the graphics and programming my self, and i have a composer composing the music(he is a member here, but i forgot his name, I'll add it in later when he gets online) Anyway, the game is still in its early stages, although i have done quite alot, there is still alot more to do. The story at the moment is as follows: A banished demon somehow gets released and destroys the sun, scattering the pieces across the globe. now, without light, the citizens of Mangville are forced to stay indoors, scared by the nocturnal demons that will devour their souls, in their desperation they turn to a young boy, a boy who must start his journey to manghood.

On the whole this looks great. There are some design flaws, but this early in development.
I wish you good luck and I demand frequent updates.

Looks very nice.
One thing I don't understand though, is the light that seems to emanating from the house in the second screenshot.

Doesn't it strain your eyes when everything is so dark and low contrast?

It's very pretty, but I think you may have overdone the darkness. I can hardly see anything.

Yeah, I thought it was just a mistake, until I noticed it hadn't been fixed yet...

I think it will be easier to see everything when it's in fullscreen. The darkness is exaggerated by being on a white background.

I really like the pixel art, but it's definitely too dark. (you may want to calibrate your monitor?)

No he's right it's alot easier to see in fullscreen. (though I didn't really have a problem seeing it in the first place.)

Remember that there's quite a lot of variation in monitors -- don't assume what you're seeing on your screen is the same as everyone else! If you really want to make a dark game, try to include contrast & brightness sliders in game.

Loving the art style! I agree, it looks too dark from the screens, but that's easy enough to fix.

Ah, right. I probably wouldn't have been able to see these on my old monitor.

Thanks for all the comments...that I didn't really reply too soon enough because i forgot about this place, mainly because of E3. Yeah, it is pretty dark, but it looks slightly different now, lemme get a screenshot. As you can see I toned down the overlay and added a night time background, this way its not so dark so that its hard to see, but dark enough so that you still get that 'night time' feel. But I don't know like some people said before, it still might be hard to see on some monitors.

This screen is worse than the others. I can see the HUD, obviously, but other than that... is there a ladder and maybe a stormtrooper helmet? You should use brighter colours, but with a bluer tint to reprisent night/darkness.

Now that I have my new monitor, I can actually see all of them. So it IS just some monitors.
New one looks great.

The blue tint works better.

So I started working on the ice world's tileset and created a small level out of it. Will probably have a snow effect added when i get round to it.

That looks really nice!
And, WHY is it dark? Did the sun disappear or some such? Or is it just night?
