I don't have any experience regarding mailing lists and trying to set up one for my game and i would really appreciate if some people that have experience could answer me some questions:
(I'm using mailchimp btw.)

- What domain is it better to send from, a free domain like @googlemail.com or from my own domain?
- In my current setup i send from my own domain and i subscribed to the list with a googlemail.com. Then send a test mail without meaningfull content, just "Test mail" - the subscribed googlemail.com account received the mail in the "advertisement" folder - does this depend on the content of the mail, the domain i send it from or can i simply do nothing about it?
- What are best practices to avoid spam filters? Or do you have to accept that some amount of the subscribers will actually never receive the mails?
- Anything else i should know?

thanks in advance!

I guess my first question is how many emails are you sending?

If you're pushing out a couple of hundred your domain will get flagged as spam and in that case it's best to go through an email mailer like MailChimp or Constant Contact.

Generally, it's better to mail from your own domain if it's less than 100 recipients.

I thought this was the main purpose of MailChimp? I'm a bit confused Wink .
