personality traits are very highly correlated to genetics as well, twin studies show this. you could say your profession and hobbies are in part influenced by your genetics.

The real question now: Why are so many Computer Scientists and Software Engineers so amazing they stand out through no effort of their own?

I think this comes off as satire but it's true either way you need to spend a lot of energy initially and picking someone better than you as a scapegoat or idol is social meta gaming.

please link these studies because if they're not separated at birth then mono and dizygotic twins are going to be raised in the same environment which i think is more likely to have an impact on your career than some nebulous gene stuff

After extensive scientific research (read: 10 mins of googling), the current consensus seems to be "we don't really know"

A gene is one of four kinds of proteins that can appear in a strand of DNA. They are the densest biological information storage known to man. They inform cells on how they should develop and multiply to form larger organisms.

you have a much better understanding than the lay person, the four things you mean are nitrogenous bases, which are translated into polypeptide sequences by ribosomes

it's really interesting to me how the vague concept of the gene has become so prevalent that everybody knows what it is, and what it's meant to signify, but it's never really communicated in any way at all to the public. i'm not trying to be a dickhead and my life is no better for knowing but it's fascinating.

The truth, your life is decided by the epigenetic DNA methylation
/s

(that's a true thing though, I don't claim to know everything about it, also gut bacteria, fuck gene).

Edit:
The thing is that modern genetics understanding (as I understand it) made "genes" more dynamic than the fix code it's been popularized, it turns out than environmental factor can influence "gene expression", which mean that even a person with the same set of gene might not use the same expression of them along his life. That mean that the dichotomy of environment and gene is not as clear as previously seen in pop culture. On top of that the body is dependent on the microbiomes, which is almost an integral part of the functioning of the body, and might account for much more influence than we use to think about, affecting things like nutrient (hello TMO) and toxin treatment, mood, personality, mental disorder, decision process, basic health, etc ...

Please correct me if off
