Hey gang, Richie Carlsbad of the Carlsbad Caverns here. Wanted to let you all know that our (Digital Eel) 1st (we hope) virtual reality game has been unleashed. It's called
Protagon.
http://store.steampowered.com/app/698100/Protagon_VR/. It's a Vive experience. Gameplay is E-Z for everyone. Sort of "pinball meets mini golf" in zero-G.
Protagon has a look and sound all its own. Backgrounds (Purple city? Purple dimension?) are hand drawn. Soundscape is intensely sci fi. Music by our buddy in Greece, Sotiris, is synth-based grooviness. All seem to meld into a cohesive whole (maybe?). Wonder what you all will think! (We encourage you to comment here.)
Protagon is like a primer for us. We thought it best to create something simple first, to get a feel for VR and, well, learn things about it. We needed to get up to speed with Unity too. Luckily the game turned out fun with all kinds of neat little touches worthy of it being decreed a Digital Eel full release (which means it's weirdly cool enough to go!).
If you're into VR, give it a whirl. It's only ten bucks, and worth every digital dime. Thanks!
Btw, I'm Rich Carlson. I do design (collaboration), create sound and write music for our games. I co-founded "Digital Eel" (a group of pals not a company) in 2001 with Iikka Keranen who co-designs, creates art and codes our games. Unfortunately, the third member of the group, Bill Sears, who created DE's signature trippy illustrative art, passed away a couple of years ago.
