Hello all ^_^

I've got a noobish question. About acquiring some gamedev art* skills.
As the title states, I'm a full-time programmer, more specifically, I write tools for 3ds Max/Maya/etc. for VFX and ArchViz, however I have absolutely no art skills. I has always been kind of a dream to me to be able to draw/model and in general produce some art (picture/model/image and so on).
I never took any directed guidance on how to art*, and the little I've learned was via some random tutorial or me fooling around with the software. To be a bit more specific here are some references:

Pretty basic stuff, done in Maya and Inkscape.
As you probably guessed I've no drawing/sketching skills either.

If I have to answer the question "what I'm interested in?", is it characters, is it landscapes, is it 2D/3D, I really do not know, It seem like I'm interested in all of it...
probably it is characters, but they seem too hard, I really cannot make anything even remotely decent.

I'm looking for some tips and guidance like "follow this tutorial here" (even if it is paid).
I would really appreciate all kind of help ^_^!

So JWK5 is the art guru around here. He pops up with helpful tutorial posts and help when needed.

He's got a collection of his art tutorial posts here:

The ones on color theory are especially good. Or you can just scroll through his last posts as I don't think all of his posts have been reposted to that thread.

Thanks for the suggestion!

This still looks too distant for me. I'm looking for a books/lessons that are more noob friendly and streamlined, probably a series that I can follow.

Whatever approach you decide to take it will require a lot of practice. I'd recommend http://drawabox.com/ if you don't know where to start (and the accompanying subreddit).
It will help you lay a really solid foundation and take you all the way to quite advanced if you follow through.

You're also more than welcome to PM me or create a topic and ask for specific help and I can walk you through the steps (visually and specifically). I am not the best artist out there but I am pretty patient when it comes to helping others learn. I know it can be daunting and frustrating when you are trying to get the artistic ball rolling.
