I'm sure it's been said somewhere in this thread already but the LEGO games are king for this. They're fun, they're funny, they're easy to pick up and play, AND they're all 100% co-op so you can play them with your kids.
This. The LEGO games are amazing fun. They are easy to pickup, 2 player COOP, do not take them selves serious. And have different topics. My kid is still to young to play, but the LEGO harry potter is great with with my girlfriend (who isn't a gamer at all)

I have some relatives that are in the 5-10 year range (boys) and they really love Castle Crashers... though I'm not sure I agree with all of that game's messages!

The Overcooked series is generally a safe call, too.
