It's a game you have the choice of paying for on XBLA/PSP or downloading for free. Everyone seems to think it's the second coming of Jesus, but it just doesn't float my boat in any way.

What's the difference between the PSP version and the XBLA version?

It's actually fairly different. For one thing you no longer really have 'lives'. It's all about synchronising with the music, so by exploding yourself on the beat you get a bonus multiplier and your blast radius extends. I don't really like the unlimited time mode. Seems to me like I could just carry on playing that until the end of time if I didn't get painfully bored within 25 minutes. Losing the life system wasn't my favourite choice actually, sort of kills the pick up and play aspect.
There's 4 Single Player modes and 1 Multiplayer (which I haven't played). Unlmited Mode, Limited Time Mode (Self explanatory), S4 and R4 (Which I forget the real names of). S4 allows you to synchronise your own music collection on the 360 and play to the beat of your own tracks. It's also tracked on the leaderboard what your score was and what you were listening to to get it. R4 is a Revenge mode, where your craft gets a VECK style overpowered projectile attack and you have to tear through 100 stages of badguys. The scoring is... well rediculous. I'm currently in the top 30 I think in that one with a score of roughly 23,000,000,000,000. And that definitely isn't going to be anywhere near the highest when more people start playing. It's good, and it's definitely not just a port of either E2 or E3... and £8 is a lot more agreeable than what was being charged for the PSP version.

they've turned it into a turn-based strategic rhythm shooter detonator.
its so wonderful on so many levels. this is MUCH better than the original, if you ask me. its a totally different beast. and you would expect so, by the second remake. or is it the remake of a remake?

Downloading for free?

Downloading for free? This game began as Omega's Every Extend (a 3PunGe entry for their second contest, which ended up winning first place). This is probably the free version that Grindie mentioned, but it has only one level.

Not really. The original was a coffee break game of sorts, this is more... an all-consuming time-trap. I some what prefer the original just because E4 is much too forgiving, you could carry on forever really if you wanted.

Yeah no shit. When it dropped on partnerNET (before public release) I figured i'd try it out for 5 or 10 minutes because I was getting ready to leave work, right? NAH. 2 and a half hours later i'm still there playing the SAME GAME I STARTED, glued to my chair, eyes glazed over, needing to pee. It's fun, but it CAN'T be good for you. On the plus side, I did end up at number 1 on the leaderboard for that stage, but those developer boards get wiped on public release.
