Investors and CEOs absorb most of the value produced by a game so that analysis doesn't hold up under its own premise

I really don't understand.
Game prices are only going to go up from here my friend. Yeah you'll catch a sale here and there, maybe a clearance but that's usually on games that are either old and washed up, or old and you already own them. I do agree that it's a rip off, but what other choice do we have if we want to continue gaming?

Disciples 2!! I loved these games, one of my fav contestors for Heroes.
Anyway, yeah it even seems that the games are getting more expensive with additional stuff to buy. And i agree on that what most said. It is definitely shareholders fault, they aim for maximized profit always.

The idea of people profiting off the value of a company is pretty gross indeed, especially when those people have no idea what games are about and so much say into what the studio does. They're like parasitic puppet masters slowly murmuring "moneeey" while pulling strings in random self-destructive ways.

The gaming industry is a huge rip off to begin with if we're being real on,the subject. Don't get me started. Yes they put in alot of work, but you have to think how many, hundreds of thousands of copies they're selling of each game. Ita no need for those crazy prices.

how many thouthands $ does person earn a year, how much do they need for 5 years of living? that "AAA games cost too much" guy eventually went overbudget with his game and asked 30$ mil from some shady local media mogul, which is a lot by chezh standarts.

If a single person indie makes 1 millions sales ... he is a millionaire If a AAA team makes 1 millions sales ... they are filling bankruptcy and selling their child
Deadline talk is a survivor bias anyway, worked so well for duke nukem forever ...
Anyway considering rules of thumb 10 000€/month overhead per employees, team of: - 1 persons = 10 000€ -> 120 000€ - 10 peoples = 100 000€ month -> 1 200 000€ per year - 100 peoples = 1 000 000€ month ->12 000 000 per years Baseline break even for 3 years dev at 40€ per games sold after all cuts: - 3 x 120 000 /40 = 9000 units sold - 3 x 1 200 000 /40 = 90 000 units sold - 3 x 12 000 000 /40 = 900 000 units sold But then you must account that you need 3 years overhead to get the next games so you double that number to get what it takes to just be on edge of not drowning, which mean any failure kills. And triple again if you are indie and don't have the quality to afford the 40€ per game but the 20€ arbitrary value threshold of the market, god forbid you get into free 2 play. 27 000 units full price seems like the only decent low point, to break even "comfortably", to not be a starving artist, and that's on a market where stability is finding unicorn level achievement (I mean battlefield is down 85% even before it sold relative to previous performance, where are all the skate games?)
That's basic math, we should always remind ourselves those simple number when discussing what it takes to make games. And the smaller you are the more nimble you get to save cost. I'm operating at 6000€ a years currently! BUT I need 60 000 units to break even due to low expected prices, long dev, etc ...

Most of AAA games cost about 5€ to me. I just buy them about three years after they come out :D
I do the same although lately I started to buy only old games or games made by indie developers.

Ah yes, if you paid any attention in your intro class to economics you would know that anything that costs less than 60 bucks is sold at a loss. This is often called the "first law of economics"

There is inflation of economics too, just compare how much USD was worth ten years ago and the price of the AAA games. We can see that it gets higher comparetively. One of the little details amongst others
