The trailer made the game feel super intense and I like that. But in general I didn't see many things that made me go "Damn, this NEW thing is going to be amazing"?
I trust admin derek tho

I just hope they get the controls fixed. Stuck on a ladder, can't leave with left/right. Stuck on a ledge, can't drop down via down key. Unskippable animations every fucking time. Now I'm wondering why this game is so famous. It's "retro" in all the wrong ways.

The controls are definitely a bit out of wack ,I thought maybe it was just me or that I was the only one who noticed. But other than that, I give it a 4 out 5 stars.

Eh, I think it's unfair to judge a sequel that way.
If you want innovation, make a different game.
If you want refinement, make a sequel.

Really? Nintendo usually baby-steps their games... That's usually people's biggest complaint with them, quality is there but sometimes it feels like you're playing the same games over and over with a new coat of paint. When they choose to innovate they usually knock it out of the park but for the most part they play it really safe.

The need for innovation declines. But the need for improving already existing systems increases.

How you can do it like nintendo, big enough step Nintendo (looking a Mario, and maybe Zelda) typically takes one core novel gameplay element, and then works out the consequences of that change to the extreme. Also, the core gameplay tends to be pretty well-established and rigid. Breath of the Wild is the exception (and all-systems-affect-all-systems is a change that probably originated Spelunky, now that I think about it ) As far as we know right now, Spelunky 2 adds fluid physics, mounts, multiple paths per level, multiple characters who seem to control slightly differently (note that the sloth is running visibly slower than the rest), a second layer for each level, and presumably just a ton more content than the first game in general. I think it will add up to a fresh experience, but

The trailer wasn't convincing, it looks the same, let's see how the end result works, spelunky 1 was innovative in many way.
Breath of the wild can be trace back to old nintendo games, they were more systemic than some recent one.

Trailer didn't grab me by the balls either but, in my mind, but it didn't need too. I just want more Spelunky and the trailer was just a reminder that it's coming. (But I still think the fluid dynamics look super cool).

Now I'm wondering why this game is so famous. It's "retro" in all the wrong ways. The really memorable thing Spelunky did was probably to bring procedural generation inspired by roguelikes like Nethack, to an action game à la Rick Dangerous. And in such a convincing way. Roguelite wasn't a term when Spelunky first appeared. Back then, I played the Gamemaker version with crappy framerate in wine (: Never tried the later updates, but I've always felt strong sympathy for the project. If the trailer promises more of the same, that doesn't sound too bad. Mounts and multiplayer are undeniably cool. I did chuckle at: "Play online! With friends!" As always, Minotauros
